This is our first time staying on property, so of course first time using a DDP, so I had a few questions. One is what is the best way to figure out what we would have to pay on tips since they are not included in the DDP. Should we look at the menus and decide what we could potentially order and decide on about 18% from that total?

We will be a family of 4, 2 adults, 2 kids. We have ADRs at the following restaurants:
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Mama Melrose's (Fantasmic! Dining Experience)
Rose & Crown
Cinderella's Royal Table
Spirit of Aloha (2 adults only)

Would someone be able and willing to help me get a general idea of what we could potentially be paying OOP for tips? Thanks

Your bill will show total it would cost for the meal before DDP (then what credits you used on reciept, as well as any out of pocket costs(cocktails, appetizers.) You just tip according to the bill as you would at any restaurant. They make it quite easy. I think there is a suggested tip on there as well by %

To get an idea of the prices at each restaurant, you can view the menus at http://allears.net/menu/menus.htm

Just pick some sample entrees, desserts and drinks, total up your "bill" for each restaurant, and figure out your estimated tips. This will at least give you a ballpark for your tip budget.

For Cinderella's Royal Table and Spirit of Aloha tip is included in the meal price so you will not have to leave an additional tip. I think we just left $20 (for two adults, one child, and a baby) at all of our table reservations last year. It probably ended up a bit over 20% in some cases (in my opinion tips are between 10-20%), but it was much easier to just carry $20s and leave that then count out money and figure out the percentage. The wait staff always seemed very appreciative and acted like it was a large amount, so I am thinking maybe people don't always think to tip or don't tip much when they are on the DDP. So good for you for thinking about it!!!!

I did as other's suggested. I looked at the menus online, took a guess at what I thought each person would eat, then figured out an appropriate tip from there. I also put the tips in envelopes before we went down (I always tried to over rather than under estimate the tip) so that money would be put aside.

It is the policy of the Restaurant boards that all discussion of tipping is to take place on a single sticky thread on the main board:

The first post has a tipping FAQ, guidelines for posting on the tipping thread and an explanation for the policy.
