Diznews said today that the Army has plans to expand Shades of Green, which currently has 287 rooms, to double it's size in a 50 million dollar expansion which may start as early as this April.
Wasn't Shades of Green closed, and completely rehabed in the last few years? Seems to me they could have done it then. If I remember correctly they had Shaes closed, and the Department of Defense was using Port Orleans or some other similar resort.
Yes. The Shades of Green resort was closed in April 2002 to add guest rooms, meeting space, and new dining. The Shades of Green resort reopened March 2004 with 586 rooms more than doubling the original 287 rooms.
The Shades of Green is an Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC) serving servicemembers and their families in all branches of the US Armed Forces. It is the only AFRC in the continental United States.
It is not just for the Army.
I'm not familiar with Diznews, but I think the news item is erroneous or from four years ago.
Cripes, what a putz!! After re-reading the info from the website, I finally realized that this was one of those "blasts from the past" rumor. It was indeed news from 2002. Sorry, folks. I have to stay offline when I'm half asleep!
