My recent trip was the first time for me to see the expanded walkway.

LOVE IT!:)

You can actually "breathe" in that area now!

DAK is really going to be something when everything is finished!

Winged Encounters was really good in this new area-I think one of the Macaws parted my hair when they left!:)

It looks like another new experience may be coming to this new area also.

So Winged Encounters specifically features macaws and is different from Flights of Wonder, correct?

Unfortunately I haven't been able to see the Wingen Encounters show. I was given the time, and went and sat and waited...and waited...Although I admit that I did see some Ospreys flying around. I wonder if they eat Macaws? Regarding the camels, this sounds very interesting. Especially since, from what I've heard, camels are often NOT friendly and they do spit. My parents have been to countries with camels many times and don't have memories of warm, fuzzy experiences with the camels.

I agree! I'm excited to see whats coming to AK. Winged Encounters does feature only macaws and I just so happened to be there when the show started and as the CM said "its not listed on the times guide and it's not always promised to happen".

In other news, when I was there Tues/Wed, a new trail close to the African gate opened up. (at the time it was behind the Daisy meet and greet so almost nobody noticed it). The first thing along the trail was a Shark Catfish (6 foot fish). But the best part was that it took you closer to the tree of life and we could find new carvings we hadn't the right angle to see yet. There was a rope blocking the end of the trail so we couldn't go much farther (until a family coming the other way just opened it and left it hanging) but we went a bit in, it was unfinished, but it looked like it was going to take you down into the roots of the tree. On our way back, we noticed new roots and carvings along the trail featuring prehistoric life so I'm interested to see what it'll be when it's finished.

So excited by all the new things happening at AK! Just saw a blog the Harambe Market will be open when we go in May, and can't wait for the new trails! Saw the macaws fly over last trip, just stunning!

Osprey are just about 100% fish eaters. They don't prey on other birds or mammals. They may run-off other birds to defend their nest, and this is nesting season. Osprey are wonderful birds to watch!

The area is beautiful! One of the few changes I actually like. One of the carvings near the roots of the tree is a Komodo dragon, so my DH is really happy!!

Oh, and it makes the actual "entrance" to the park seem a lot closer. I don't feel like I'm in a death march so much.

Thanks for that information! I knew Osprey ate lots of fish-the way they hold the fish when they fly is pretty interesting. So maybe the Ospreys would have been territorial and chased the Macaws off. I just hope I get to see them perform in October.

Saw on a blog that the Harambe marketplace will open May 22, pretty sure there is a new walkway around the back of it. Tamu Tamu has already gone to dessert options only, the offerings in the marketplace area will expand. There is a new path from Everest area to Kali, and an expansion of paths near the tree of life. :)

Have always been especially fond of AK. Most relaxing park in my opinion. Also great place for photos and interactions with CMs

Oh, my! Now I'm really conflicted. If Joe Rohde thinks it's a cool idea, it must have some merit. I'm such a Joe Rohde fan! Initially, I thought it was a dumb idea, but now that I know it has "the Joe Rohde seal of approval"...
