Exit Polls

I think one of the biggest stories out of last night are the horrible predications made by the exit polls. I think that's also exacerbating the loss for Kerry. Those polls didn't just have him winning, they had him winning in a landslide.

I think they should be done away with completely. We can wait on the real totals.

There have been discussions and debates regarding the need or importance of pollsters. Because elections in the past 11 years have been so close, they no longer become a factor.

I personally find them tedious and have no merit value.

I also think that those of us on the winning side to be gracious in our victory. It hurts to lose. :(

I can't imagine what it's like at the Kerry's house this morning. It's got to hurt something horrible. However, I won't be so magnanimous if Kerry decides to drag this out. He needs to be a statesman now and accept this.

I'm against exit polls too. Drudge had a blurb yesterday that Kerry was carrying Ohio by 1%. Sean H. had the same theme on his radio show yesterday. I only see this as an attempt to sway voters to vote for Bush.

I have a pretty good idea how they're feeling, and I agree, we should be gracious.

I grew up in a very Republican household at a time when our state was overwhelmingly Democrat. Most election nights it was all over about an hour after the polls closed.

I totally agree - I hope we can demostrate a little of the class that I think the GOP possesses in abundance.

The stock market was bullish all day until the first exit polls were leaked on Drudge, the market crashed. It was very interesting to watch.

What I found amusing was a report on FOXnews.com about how the exit polls were totally wrong - but then the article continued with this statement:
Exit polls did elicit some news about voters' moods, which suggested that neither candidate had a clear mandate on the issues. The close nature of the popular vote in the early morning hours Wednesday seemed to indicate that those attitudes may have been more accurately reflected in exit data than presidential preferences...............
The whole ariticle is here: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,137451,00.html

If the exit polls were wrong on the presidential race, how can it be right on voters moods?

Absolutely! And have you seen the futures this morning?

Because I think that people always welcome an opportunity to give an opinion about how they "feel" about something and why they feel that way. They are less incline obviously, to indicate who they vote for. Additionally, Kerry had more support among women and they were being oversampled in the early exit polls.

My opinion is that the exit polls were wrong because of the sampling - so the sampling of moods might not have been accurate as well. Especially - when talking moods - if one gender was oversampled from the other

The exit polls can still tell us a lot of useful information at this point. They have (or will?) adjust them to reflect the actual vote demographics.

The question is what will happen during the next election. They've been wrong three times in a row now.

I loathe Exit Polls. If I were ever polled (I've never even seen a poller) I don't know if I would refuse to answer or lie - to throw off the poll.
