Existing PAPs and majic bands

We got our PAPs last August before the bands rolled out. This August we will have bands, and the same PAPs. I linked them (I think) in MDE and picked my colors. So..... why is it then that I see tweats and posts about how MBs and APs will soon come together? What am I missing???

Annual Passholders will be able to get magic bands WITHOUT booking a room reservation.

Let me ask it a different way. I live far away. I won't be there until my vacation in August. MDE shows 2 x sets of bands that I can order. I can order 4 x AP bands, and I can order 6 x bands for my August stay at VGF. If I take the 4 AP bands, will the 6 bands for VGF also have the APs? Or better....if I don't take the 4 AP bands, will the 6 have the APs? I'm sorry if it's confusing. Imagine how I feel !!

Nothing is actually stored on the MagicBands, they only contain a unique band id number that is linked to a MDE profile. Park admission (annual pass or MYW ticket), room reservations, FP+ selections, etc. are also linked to MDE profiles. The MagicBand is just a key to reading the data stored on your file, so any and all MagicBands associated with your profile can be used interchangeably.

Wow, if that's correct, that's amazing. Thank you very much. I called MS and they were STUMPED by the question. It's all so new.

You're getting some because of the reservation. And the AP holders are getting more because of the APs.

They will all work as long as you don't actually deactivate them from your account. I currently have all colors but yellow, thanks too a total of 5 reservations and one moment of thinking I'd left a MB at home. But I just put yellow as my AP band. So now I'll have 'em all.

And so far they have all worked interchangeably.

So far, my DH & I have 3 sets - all different colors. We had two sets for our last trip and all worked for everything - room key, charging, park admission, FP+, ME, etc. Didn't matter which color.

I'm kind of hoping I don't get yet another set for my PAP. Seems wasteful, but I do like having all the different colors, LOL.
