So, is St. Ives apricot scrub an ok product to use? Or anything else you recommend under $20. How many times is recommended to exfoliate in a week? And is it ok to just use a moisturizer after exfoliating?

I've been using Clean & Clear morning burst cleanser, their exfoliating scrub, and their deep cleaning astringent for almost a decade now. All three units combined cost just about $20 at the local supermarket.

St. Ives is too harsh for me, but I know a lot of people who swear by it. I alternate between Alba's Sea Algae Enzyme Scrub ($11.99 at Rite Aid) and their Pineapple Enzyme Facial Scrub ($13.99 at Rite Aid), and I love both of them.

Anything that has sharp edges like St Ives Apricot scrub does is much too harsh for your face. It causes tiny little cuts on your face. Using a products with beads or a face brush would be better for your skin.

I use them olay mio knockoff brush. I just use my normal neutrogena cleanser. I use the brush once a day and the cleanser twice a day. My skin is much smoother and fewer breakouts. At first I broke out for about a week, then it got much better quickly

Kate Sommerville makes a good one. Its a little pricey but I think the beads are much finer and aren't as harsh on your face.

Thank you for your replies. Anyone have answers to my other questions....how many times per week to exfoliate? And I just want to use moisturizer after exfoliating, no other products is that ok?

I use my Mia daily, but if you have sensitive skin you can exfoliate less. The only other product I use on my face (other than wash in the morning and astringent at bedtime) is moisturizer in the morning after my shower.

I agree that the apricot srub from st.ives is a bit too harsh. I have a scrub, from dove I believe, thats gentler than the apricot scrub.

Its been said that one shouldnt exfoliate more than once a week.

I used to use St. Ives, but the granules were not uniformly spread throughout the lotion. I have since switched to Clinique, which has a far more even consistency. I use the face scrub once a week, and the Clinique face wash on the six remaining days of the week.

Thank you so much for your quick replies to how many times to exfoliate. I really appreciate all of your help.

Another option is baking soda mixed w/ some Cetaphil (or store brand version) face wash. You cna sue that a couple times per week unless your skin's very sensitive.

Do you have a European Wax Center where you live? They make really good skincare products, and I love their exfoliating gel. I use it all over my body, including my face. It's a decent tub for around $20-$25, and not as harsh as some of the other ones out there. I will put it on before I get in the shower, let it sit for a minute, and then you can rub it in and will feel the skin flaking as you rub it in. I then wash it all off in the shower, and I do moisturize when I get out.

I know you wanted one for your face. but thought i would give another idea for you. Not for your face but for the back of my arms (very bumpy) and hands and feet i mix some coconut oil and sugar. Feels very soft afterwards.

I just use plain granulated sugar. Maybe once a week. I use it in the shower when I am planning on washing my hair, so it rinses off easy.

The mircodelivery daily exfoliating wash by Philosophy is my favorite I use it every morning & Purity facial wash at night. I have been using the Olay Regenerist Exfoliating System bi-weekly it is pretty good. It is Chemical & beads so it really smooths nicely

You may want to look into Aztec Healing Clay (on Amazon)... it sounds ridiculous but it's AMAZING & cheap ($9 for a pound that lasts FOREVER). Not to mention it gets rave reviews. I love it.
