Are there step/aerobic classes? Just the treadmills and free weights? How do you work off what you eat (and drink)?

On our last cruise, I don't remember seeing anything about actual aerobic classes, but I know they did do some other classes. From what I can remember, most of the things that they offered were more informational...one thing was an analysis they did to help you figure out why you weren't losing weight, etc.
The ship also has the walking/running track on one of the decks that you could use if you didn't want to use the Spa.

I've been to the aerobics classes there on the Magic. It was fun! DH and I took a step class (very basic) and a "buns and legs" class. I'm an aerobics instructor myself, so I actually got some good ideas from that one! lol Now, our last cruise was in November, so don't know if they've changed since then. The instructors even invited us to join them on Castaway Cay for their run/walk they do first thing in the morning there. They do have some classes they charge for, but we didn't do any of those. The gym is very nice - treadmills and bikes with TVs at each station, although you're overlooking the ship and ocean - beautiful! Free weights, towels, ice water with fresh lemon. We tried to make it up there every day - of course, by day 5, we were moving slower........ :scared: lol
Oh! I had to add that you can walk entirely around deck 4 - so we did that in the evenings....interesting when the waves are extra big as it feels like your walking up a very steep hill, then going down the other side over and over again.... :)

I've done several types of free classes--aerobics, exercise ball, ....there were a lot of others that sounded too hard for me! In the fitness center there are treadmills, elipticals, free weights, rowing machines, bikes....not sure what else.

For anyone who cares, a scale is not accurate on a moving ship! Really.

Other alternatives--there is a walking/jogging track, equipment available on the sports deck for basketball, etc.

The bread is good, but not worth the calories (except the banana walnut.) Save it for the desserts. Take the stairs every time. My logic is that every little bit helps.

We did stairs everywhere and that helps A LOT! DCL offers many classes on the Magic, but go to the spa the first day to sign up - they fill up fast (esp. the kick boxing class)

When I'm on the inside hallways (like going to your stateroom) I feel this ALL OF THE TIME while on the ship - even when it's tied up securly at Port Canaveral. I never feel like this when walking around deck 4 or 9 or 10 (even when we have sailed with LARGE swells/waves). Wierd Huh:confused3

Do you need to sign up to use the jym equipment (treadmills) or can you just walk in for those?

you can just show up to use the gym equipment. It is a small area and does get crowded after about 730 in the morning. If you want a locker just check in at the spa desk.

So, it does not sound like there is a charge for the treadmills, bikes etc. that overlook the ocean. Is that correct?

We usually walk/run Deck 4 for exercise, but sometimes they have the front of the ship or portions of the deck closed for maintenance, so you can't go all the way around. No big deal, but I thought trying the gym would be fun for a change.

Does anyone know if the magic offers spin classes?
I was on the Norwegian Dawn for a 10 day cruise in November and they had a great spinning room overlooking the water...it was fun!

There is no charge to use the treadmills or exercise equipment. Unless somehow I completely missed it there are no spinning classes.

hi...it's a group cycling class...each person is on their own stationary bike and follow the instructor to the music. It is really fun..the bike has different levels of tension so at points it's like you are climbing up a mountain...try it!!

It's vacation ..... work it off when you get home! The cruise is so short. There has be some over indulgence to make life fun. "All work and no play makes you a dull person." :cool1:

No charge to use the fitness center or the locker room. You can get headphones and/or a locker by checking in at the desk (they keep your KTTW card till you return the key)...or you can just walk in and use the stuff. There are no spinning classes.

Occasionally (especially on sea days) there is a sign up sheet for the treadmills and elipticals. It is sort of like standing in line, only you can do other stuff while you wait. At those times, you are asked to limit time on each machine to 30 minutes. This is really rare, and basically only early mornings on sea days.

Just remember, no one under 18 is allowed into the fitness center. We found that odd for a family cruise. DS was a high school varsity baseball player at the time and wanted to continue his conditioning, but at age 16 was too young to use the fitness center. Everytime he looked in they was plenty of equipment available.

Actually, they did have one (yes, just one in 7 days ) 30 session in the fitness center for those under 18, but it was only for those in the clubs (DS didn't take part in the clubs) and it was at 8:30 at night.....right when our late seating dinner started.
