We have every good intention of trying to eat, eat, eat, then may be a little exercise while on board (Magic 10/18/03 + 2 todders). Anyone tried the aerobic classes? walking, etc.? Please advise.

we do the walking around deck 4 , 4 times is one mile
and a lot of people use the Gym has great view....

I always do the walking also on deck 4. My husband sleeps in--I meet up w/ my parents, and we walk early. It's not crowded early (around 6:30) and it's beautiful!!! Plus then I feel great at breakfast and don't care if I eat what I want!!

I did the walk around deck 4 a couple of times. The biggest thing that helped me from gaining 100 pounds was taking the stairs. Almost every time. Up and down.

Whenever hubby and I sail, we try to do the walking (we haven't done any of the classes, but they seem to be popular). Recently I got "Walk Away the Pounds" videos for the abs, and they come with a belt with stretch tubing that you use during the walking workout. The belt is small enough to pack without much trouble, so I'm bringing it on our July cruise. I might look a little silly, but it really helps to add that upper body element.

I have used the excercise room equipment-treadmill and weights. The aerobic classes are on a sign-up basis w/limited space, so if you are interested do that the first day. Take the spa tour on the first day to findout what is offered and sign up then. Also, walking the deck is great.

I found that if I went light on lunch it helped. I avoided the lunch buffet because I love breakfast and the whole social atmosphere of dinner. Lunch was substituted w/ some sort of snack and a pina colada or those ohter really good pink drinks-Bon Voyage I think they are called.

So drink a Pina Colada, while walking deck 4 and you should be even!!

HAVE A GREAT CRUISE!!!

I hit deck 4 early every morning for a run of a couple miles. Also, on Castaway Cay you can run out to the end of the bike path - which ends sort of abruptly. They should open the trails/roads.

Regardless of the fact that DCL and others claim each lap is 1/4 mile, based on my watch and what I know my pace to be, 4 laps is more like 1.25 or 1.3 miles.

I've wanted to use the exercise machines in the fitness club, but they weren't open early enough for me.

thank you all. Deck 4 seems to be the place to run or walk. Any one actually did the aerobic classes? What about any exercise for kids in the oceaneer club? this is our very first cruse, lots of questions. thanks again

I've done the aerobics classes on the 2 cruises we've done with Disney. They are early morning, or late afternoon. some were good, some not so good. They usually have 2 different instructors. Some of the classes had way too much choreography for me and didn't seem to follow the beat in the music. Some instructors were more personable than others. Any specific questions. Beth

When I went I had planned on walking the decks etc but I found I was so busy and so tired that I didn't end up doing any of it at all though I did take the stairs most of the time since the elevators are so packed all the time. I came off the ship weighing less than when I went on anyway from being on the go all day long!

So, the consensus is walking and climbing stairs. Aerobic classes are hit and miss? Any tips on eating sensibly? Thank you all.

I thought about aerobics classes. But they always seemed to conflict with relaxation time! ;)

I ate whatever I wanted, but never stuffed myself to the point of being uncomfortable. I am NOT a believer in the "clean your plate" theory of eating. Often times I'd leave some of my entree in order to leave room for dessert. I also drank water with a lemon wedge during meals so I didn't pack on unnecessary calories that way. I did NOT feel deprived.

I don't know about the cruise specifically, but after eating/walking/climbing stairs on a 4 day cruise and eating/walking at WDW for 9 days, I was a whole pound heavier. NOT BAD!!

I also use the stairs and the treadmill, lifecycle and free weights in the health club. I'm not a big fan of aerobics so I didn't do any of those classes. I did DANCE a LOT every night. :)

As for eating healthy, there ARE "light" choices on the menu. Many nights I'd just get the grilled chicken breast, which was actually delicious. Your wait staff may try to PUSH food on you (at least some of them do). They are used to pleasing folks who want to try all the appetizers or maybe a second entree. I also never eat dessert so I tell them that the first night. You just have to be polite and decline the extra food, or just let it sit there if they insist on bringing it anyway.

Good luck, as you can see you certainly CAN cruise and still be healthy. :)

Hi aprilgail2.

I came off the ship weighing less than when I went on

Me too - although when boarding I had a 15-pound weight on each ankle...
