Just wondering if there are classes onboard like spinning, or cardio, etc...? Also, are teens allowed on the treadmills?

You must be 18 to use the fitness center during normal hours. There is at least one teen session on the 7 day cruise. That is the only time teens can use the facility. There are many classes, but some get cancelled due to lack of interest. Sign up early in the cruise as they do full up sometimes too. I know it sounds like I'm saying 2 different things....but I've seen full classes and I've gotten phone calls that classes were cancelled because only 2 ladies signed up. There was no charge for classes on our last cruise, although a couple years ago there was a charge.

There is no charge for the use of the fitness center equipment or locker room.

Are there showers in the locker room? Are they 'communal' or private? I keep picturing high school gym class ;)

In the female locker room, there are 2 private showers with shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. They open onto a communal drying off area. You then walk over to a communal locker area.

It's a whole lot nicer than my gym class. It has been incredibly rare for me to be in the shower at the same time as someone is in the other one. There are times when many people are dressing at the same time as people dress for spa appointments, etc.

No spinning....they have step, cardio kickbox and typical hi/low impact classes, toning classes and some yoga and pilates. To get a general idea of classes and when they tend to be offered, sneak a peek at some navigators....

I'd really like to know if they still do the 7am mile-run around the ship? I've seen it on an old navigator but I don't know if it still operates.

They usually do this with one of the instructors. However, even if it isn't on the schedule, there is nothing to prevent YOU from doing it. Or go to the "cruise meets" section of the board and find the thread for your cruise. Post there and organize an unofficial group of walkers or runners.

There's always the "Stair Master". Don't take the elevators, always take the stairs. Since I'm on deck 2, getting up to the pool is quite a climb. At the beginning of the cruise it's pretty tiring. In the middle couple of days I just don't want to do them anymore, and for the last 3 days or so (obviously 7 nighters) it get's to be "easy". And I get to eat extra deserts because of my multiple times per day workout on the "stair master". Oh yea, I also use them going down. You just gotta be careful - don't want to go too fast because you can get dizzy (1/2 flights per floor). And no, I never have the problem of going too fast when going UP.

I am mostly concerned that my "tweens" aren't going to find enough exercise with the over 18 rule for the treadmills/etc. My kids are use to 3-4 hours of tennis a day - they are totally dedicated to tennis- and I think they will miss the exercise. I know there is a basketball court but do they do organized sports or classes for the kids?

Sort of like palyground rules. Sometimes open shooting, sometimes games form, and I have always been proud of my fellow guests that when I look out to make sure older teens or even adults arent pushing aside youngsters, I have always seen someone mature enough to seemingly take a leadership role and include everyone. DS, now 9, LIVES at the basketball court, and we've gone by the court and seen him in games as an 8 year old with players up to their 40's! when there is a crowd, there seems to be a good sportsmanship atmosphere of players rotating in and out to share playing time and not overcrowd the court when it is a game.

I am typically watching the basketball events while eating. What's all this nonsense about exercise? if calories consumed on the high seas dont count, then surely there must not be any benefit to calories exercised off. so to exercise is not only a waste of time, it is time away from a buffet or snack or meal or soft serve or...

Is there any organized exercise type things for kids? My 10 year old will be in training for his district wrestling meet which happens the week after we get back and it is very important to him to not lose a week of training.
