Exercise and hot weather

How do you handle your exercise routine when the weather outside is unbearable? This week our temps have been in the 90's during the day and 70's during the night and the humidity is killer, which is making it harder to go to the gym and work out. (Right now it is going on 10 pm and it is still 84 degrees!) I have been going earlier in the day, but it is starting to be uncomfortable even at 8:00 in the morning. Going somewhere that there is AC is next to impossible because very few places are air conditioned in Italy (and working out in my car is next to impossible ;)). Our gym has two large fans and today since there were very few people in the gym I was fortunate enough to have the fan blowing in my direction while I was on the treadmill, but I rarely have that option, so what is a girl to do? Any suggestions?

Get up even earlier :) Or do water aerobics?

This has been my problem too. I am hoping to get up at 5:45/6am to WATP or do water exercise while the kids swim (unfortunetly it is a community pool, so it can get pretty crowded).

Go naked!

Just kidding! :) I sympathize with you! It is HUMID here and warm almost all the time, day or night. I used to go out to rollerblade after 10 but I realize I will have to try to get out by 8 before the sun is up over the trees. We power walk at night, but this time of year there is usually a good rain/thunderstorm to cool things off a little. Drink LOTS of water and just suck it up. We'll just have to call you Sweaty Betty for the summer, Deb! ;)

Are you wearing a t-shirt to workout? If so, maybe you can find a comfy sleeveless shirt. What about shorts, are they like the biker (tight) shorts or something loose and cottony? Go for comfort, don't worry about keeping so covered up!!! :)

Sending cooler weather pixie dust your way! :)

I agree with Disneychrista. I go jogging around 5:20am year round. Its still hot and a lot tougher than the cooler weather, but its possbile. Dont forget lots of water and dont push too hard.

My dh leaves for work at 7am so I have to have completed my walk by then- this means I have to leave at 5:50am! (I have 3 children who are young and won't take those long walks with me at my pace :)) It takes me about an hour and 10 minutes to walk 4 miles. I do this T-W-H and then on weekends pump up to about 10 over two days. I tried walking at 9am once- it was just tooo hot by then- a world of difference at 6am vs. 9am! Once you make it a habit it's not hard to stick to it......and then when fall comes you can move your time up again. The bad part for me is I always have to go at 6am and for about 6 weeks in the winter/fall it's pitch black outside! UGH! Atleast now the sun is rising at about 5:45 am so it's nice and cheery outside. Give it a try- and I always drink a glass of water before heading out.

I always take the kids to the playground around 7:00 at night and while they are playing, I am walking around the parking lot about 10 times which is equivilent to 2 miles! It has to be at night though, as it has been getting really hot during the day lately!

Well, it hasn't gotten that warm, here. I am using an elliptical trainer inside and the WATP 1 mile dvd inside too. The weather doesn't really affect my workout.

The heat/humidity is killer here too! Because of work I don't have a choice but to workout in the evening. It's a little cooler then but not much. My equipment is in our garage so it's stuffy in there but I open the window and turn on the fan and it's much more bearable. :)
