I've just fond your thread. I'm glad you've found a solution. I was going to suggest res care before I finished reading post #1.

My aunt has a degree to teach special ed, but works in res care. Has for many years now. I know she used to keep one of her "girls" for several days in a row when her mother who was born in Germany would go to visit family once every year or two. Use you your res care as much as you can. You deserve it.

Your sis in law never should of said she intended to watch the kids if she didn't intend to follow through. She knew when her anniversary was. I don't think you are wrong to be upset at her. Knowing all your family faces and how precarious her brothers health is you would think she would be more then happy to follow through on what she said she would do.
It seems like more and more people nowadays say they will do something then change their mind like it's no big deal.

I am glad you got the respite caregiver to step in and salvage your trip. I hope you 2 have a wonderful time. And NYC was never someplace I really had to go but having been there I would say it is incredible.
