Excuse me, you'll need to see security. What has Mickeystoontown done? Update 3/25x2

Yep I am from the small town of Saline, it is in between Ruston and Natchitoches.

I know where Saline is! I think....way back when.....John's dad used to preach there but I'm not sure. We are in West Monroe so not too far away from you.

Hey Lisa,
I am coming over from the May 2013 thread.
I have to say that I am just loving your TR, it is so entertaining. I can't wait to read more.popcorn::

I am so jealous that you got to spend the night in an Haunted House, though I am glad that no ghosties came out to play. I am fasinated by ghosts but don't know what what would actually happen if I ever did see a ghost.:scared1:

Welcome! It's nice to see another May, 2013 Diser! The building that I work in is definiately haunted. It used to be an old hotel and little things are constantly being moved around....staple pullers, pens, etc. I also smell old timey cigar/pipe smoke every once in a while. I've had a chair spin around while I was faxing a document in my boss' office. Oh and I've heard whistling down the hallway and there was nobody here but me. I've come to the conclusion that they must be nice ghosts or they'd be doing naughty things directly to me.

Yikes I would be scared to work there alone ! :scared1:

Oh man!! You must have had a busy day at work! I was hopeful for an update!!! :sad1:

Although, I know you are busy and what not… I mean, ya gotta actually WORK to bring home that paycheck…

Good morning, Lisa. Checking in with you-sitting poolside from the Coronado Springs Resort being treated to Disney music. Glad I did or I'd be pages behind. I have a sleepy family who like to waste their day away while in Disney!:eek:I'd be having an attack if we had park tickets, but since we are here for resort enjoyment and relaxation, and to visit the Sea World:eek:parks this time, I guess I won't complain.
Loved your photos of your arrival. We came across the turnpike, so we missed all the fun photos you show. I think it's great to arrive faster, but somehow it took some of the arrival fun out of it. Can't wait to see your next batch of photos and to hear your thoughts on cruising!

I'd be doing a lot of praying if I worked there!

Come on Lisa! I'm ready to read about the cruise! ha! I will check back in later....I guess some people have to work...:confused3 Hope you get to post an installment today!

It's not as bad as you'd think. They leave me alone so I'm not too bothered by it.

I did get a chance to write about half an installment yesterday and then it got busy again. I'm definitely getting it posted this morning.

Wow! 13 pages in ... better late than never right? :confused3 I originally saw your link on FB, but haven't had a chance to pull FB up on my laptop so I could click it. But then found your link in the May 2013 thread. Woot! :woohoo:

Enjoying your TR so far! We stayed at CBR in 2010 and again in March. Anxious to hear where you got placed!

Also, your kiddos are neighbors (I'm one city south of Knoxville ~ in Maryville). Jesse looks familiar, so I've probably seen him in passing at a store or something. :confused3 Is he a native of Knoxville or did they both move after the wedding?

Oy, anyway, anxious for more! popcorn::

Hi! I am enjoying your trip report. We are planning a trip back to Disney next May. I am soo excited!! I have a 4 year old DS and we are thinking about staying at CBR in a Pirate Room. Can't wait to hear more about your trip! :cool1:

Should I have left our fate up to the Disney Gods or should I have made a request?

We pulled into the nice, shady parking area outside of the Custom House and all went in. As soon as the castmember opened the door for us, I could smell that wonderful smell. The smell of Disney and the Caribbean Beach Resort. I have no idea what the smell is but it’s heavenly.

Of course, me being me, I had to make a potty break first. I was going to take pictures of what the bathroom looked like but someone came in right after me and I didn’t want them to think I was some sort of weirdo taking pictures of the bathroom. I did my business and then headed back out to see my men waiting on me.

Just outside the airline check-in area, there was a model of one of the Disney Cruise Line ships and I had to snap a picture even if it wasn’t a model of the Disney Dream that we’d soon be boarding.

I then gave the camera to Hunter and told him to take a few pictures while his Dad and I got in the online check-in line. Or, should I say, non-existent online check-in line since we were the only ones there.

As I think I said before, we have stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort six years in a row and, in the past, I’ve put in requests but, this time, I decided to leave the fate of our room location up to the Disney Gods. For those of you who’ve read any of my posts over on the Caribbean Beach Resort thread, I really don’t mind the walks from anywhere on CBR property so I figured that we’d be fine no matter where our room was.
Because we had done online check-in prior to our trip, our packet was ready and I anxiously waited while the castmember opened up the packet to reveal our room location. Would we be in the nosebleed section of the resort or ringside? As if moving in slow motion, the page of the folder opened, the castmember pulled out the map and our room location was revealed. We were in Barbados Bldg. 11. Barbados, one of the furthest villages from Old Port Royale. You know what? So what! We hadn’t stayed in Barbados before so I was excited to see something “new” within our favorite resort. We thanked the castmember and we were off to see our home for the next two nights.

Remember how I talked about John not letting us eat in the SCAR because it was still new? He also wants me to park way out in Timbuktu so that nobody will accidentally bump their car doors into our’s. When I pulled into the Barbados parking lot, I looked for a parking place and found one at the far end and there was only one other car in the area. We grabbed a few things and went in search of our room.

One of the things that we love about the Caribbean Beach Resort are the pretty winding paths that go around and through the buildings. You’ll find little nooks and crannies and hidden umbrella tables in the courtyards. Those pathways can also be a bit confusing at times though and this was one of those times. We walked this way and that looking for our room number. I spotted a couple of castmembers and asked where room number so-and-so (I can’t remember it right now.) was. They pointed upstairs and, when I turned around to tell John and Hunter, they were standing at the stairwell trying to get my attention to tell me they had found it.

Our room was a corner room which made it seem bigger and it was certainly more bright although you can’t tell it from the pictures that I took.

As you can see from the above pictures, there was a wooded area right in front of our building. It make that section of the Barbados village seem more secluded which was nice.

I’m not good at just sittin’ and doing nothin’ so, while Hunter got his first look at the Disney vacation channels:

I went outside to take more pictures of the landscaping around our building:

I took the pathway to the left to see how far we were from the main promenade that goes all the way around the resort. Along the pathway was a family of bunnies.

I walked maybe a minute and came upon the promenade:

We were all getting pretty hungry so we decided to go down to Old Port Royale and get a bite to eat. I decided to time our walk to Old Port Royale so that I could post it here on the Disboards. There are quite a few folks who ask about the walk from the furthest buildings to OPR so I figured I’d see for myself. First, I took one more picture of the room which is pretty crappy since the lights weren’t on and I, apparently, didn’t have the flash on either. Oh well, at least you can see that we had a corner room:

DSCF2265.jpg

We walked to the main promenade (again less than a minute) and started the walk to Old Port Royale. Just as we got to the Barbados quiet pool, a family with two strollers walked out onto the promenade and there was no way to pass by them. They were walking veeeeeeery slowly but that was okay with us because we were enjoying the walk and the scenery around us. Seven minutes and 22 seconds later, we arrived at Old Port Royale. If we hadn’t been behind the slow walkers, it would have been way less than that....maybe 5, 6 minutes.

John was pretty sure what he wanted to eat. Hunter knew absolutely what he wanted. I had no idea. Leave it up to me to be the odd man...woman..out. Hunter hopped in the pizza line. John went to the deli line. I wandered until I decided to get something from the deli station as well. Because we weren’t on the dining plan for the first two nights, this meal would be out-of-pocket so Hunter had to wait for us to get our sandwiches so John and I could pay for it all.

John ended up ordering the Reuben sandwich with housemade chips. Hunter ordered an individual cheese pizza and I got a turkey club sandwich with a pasta salad as a side. None of us wanted anything for dessert right then so we decided if we wanted something later, we’d just go back and get it.

John’s sandwich (with mine in the background):

I guess I didn’t take a picture of Hunter’s pizza or if I did, it was fuzzy and I deleted it. Hunter scarfed his food down in no time and was ready to hit the arcade. I had brought along several arcade cards from previous trips so that he could see if there were still points on them. I also gave him $20 and told him to buy another if the others were empty. John and I sat and ate our sandwiches and talked about what we were going to do that evening and tomorrow. Once we were done, we headed over to the arcade to see what Hunter was doing. John, being the big kid that he is, found some “old school” games and had to play too.

I am not a gamer so I mostly stood around and watched them or people watched. After a while, they said they were done playing and that we could leave. We walked around in the store for a bit to see what they had for sale even though we weren’t planning on buying anything since tomorrow was our Downtown Disney day. After our window shopping, we went outside into the Old Port Royale courtyard to see that the castmembers had the outdoor movie screen and chairs set up. Wanna see a movie? Why not!?!

DSCF2275.jpg

How relaxed are you right now Hunter? Reaaaaally relaxed!

DSCF2276.jpg

How relaxed were the three of us? Reaaaaally relaxed!

DSCF2277.jpg

The movie of the night was WallE which Hunter loves but John and I had never seen before. I know! Can you believe that there’s a Disney movie that we haven’t seen? Actually, John and I had started watching WallE a couple of times but something always come up that kept us from watching more than the first thirty minutes or so. I snapped this picture while waiting for the movie to start:

DSCF2278.jpg

Not too long after the movie had started, we could see and hear the fireworks from EPCOT and everybody oohed and aahed over them including me. Once the movie was over, we slowly made our way back to our room. We watched a little bit of television and then hit the bed. Tomorrow was our shopping day at Downtown Disney!

Up next: Why have we never tried this before?

It's so nice to get a tour around another resort, especially one I've not been to!

If the farthest building is a 5-7 minute walk, I say that's great!

I think you had a very relaxing first night!

I always love your pictures of CBR! We've stayed there once before for three nights, but I just started my PTR for my next trip last night, and this time we are doing a split stay for our 9 night trip with 6 of those nights at CBR! I can't wait to be there longer and to be able to check out more things around the resort. I know I'll think of your family when we rent a surrey bike:lmao:!
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for all your wonderful TRs. They build up that Disney excitement when I read them!

Great updates! We've stayed in a Pirate room before (the walk was LONG, but beautiful) and then we stayed in Aruba 51 in March (short walk to OPR, LONG walk to the bus stop). It looks like your area had a great woody view! Honestly, I think CBR is one of the prettiest resorts I've seen ... but some people don't like the walks (especially after a long day in the parks) ... but they are gorgeous scenic walks!

That reuben looked so yummy! I don't think we ate lunch/dinner at OPR any on our last visit ... just breakfast. But I could totally go for a reuben right now!

AHHHH, a Disney movie under the stars! :cloud9: Those pictures make me want to buy one of those Mickey inflatable projector screens  ...but then I would also have to buy the projector to project the movie onto the projector screen :sad1:...oh never mind! :sad2:

Looks like you had a great, relaxing first night there. I can never relax when I first get there. If there is two hours of time we could watch a movie under the stars, that means there is two hours of time we could be at a park, or at least DTD...:rotfl2:

Wonderful update and pictures!! What a great first evening to your trip! I think we'll have a similar first day this fall! We've always stayed with first-timers during our CBR stays, but this time, we're on our own and will have time to, literally, stop and smell the roses. We're usually so busy showing other people around. I look forward to a turkey club at OPR followed by an outdoor movie. Thanks for keeping our excitement alive this summer. I look forward to hearing about your cruise too! :thumbsup2
