I'm sorry if this has already been asked. If we purchase our excurisions through Disney and for some reason the ship is not able to stop at port (weather etc), do you have to have the trip insurance to get your money back?

Thanks much!

No, I've been told if you cannot do the excursion you booked through DCL because the ship didn't dock then you are not charged for the excursion.

We actually had an excursion cancelled on us because the waters were too choppy for the glass bottom boat, and DCL reversed the excursion charges on our stateroom account.

Now, if you book an excursion bypassing DCL, that could be a whole different ball of wax......

Usually if the excursion company is reputable, they will not charge you, or refund your money if the ship is unable to dock for any reasons. If the ship does dock, and you've booked with a non-DCL vendor, expect the excursion to go off. Usually DCL is very conservative with their excursions and cancel before most of the on-island providers will.

On our last trip to Castaway Cay, we had reserved the getaway package with snorkeling, biking, and floats, but because it was gray, drizzling and cool, they gave you the option to cancel and get a refund which we did. They also told us at St. Thomas that the seas were quite rough although sunny out and they may not be able to stop at St. John for that excursion and thus gave us the option to not go. We should've cancelled because they weren't able to go to St. John and went somewhere else where the seas were extremely rough and everytime we tried to swim to shore to rest, the staff at the hotel where we anchored way out in front of, chased us from the beach. I think if they give you the option to cancel for some weather related reason, it just might be wise to do so.

Thanks everyone! I don't know if we'll come across that problem on the Mexico cruise, but it could happen I guess.
