hello folks
We just had our exciting online check in morning, FINALLY!!!!!! Also we just booked an excursion to Atlantis, a bucket list item for Mama Bear. Curious about getting charged for it. It doesn't appear that we pay now, so do we just get charged later on at the end of the cruise? Thank you in advanced for all your help.

Hi! Yes they charge you at the end. If you want to sort of prepay for it, then I suggest adding an onboard credit to your account.

You will see charges to your card after about $700 is spent on board or charged through DCL. Your on board account can also be seen on your room TV.

On our 12-night Mediterranean cruise this summer on the Magic, the charges for all of the excursion we had booked showed up in our stateroom acount on embarkation day.

Yes, the current procedure is to charge all the excursions to the onboard account the first day. Time was they were charged on the day the excursion actually took place, but that's been a while.

However, even if charged the first day to the onboard account, that's not necessarily when the charge is done to the credit card. Depends on how much is currently charged to the onboard account.

It's not a bad idea to check your stateroom account several times during the cruise either at Guest Services or on the TV if available. It's so easy to charge stuff and forget about it, especially if there's more than one person authorized to charge on the stateroom account. Checking occasionally prevents surprises at the end of the cruise.

One other thing, you can only cancel Disney Excursions up to three days ahead of your cruise. After that, they are non-refundable (if you cancel, not if the cruise line cancels), so depending on your situation and your comfort level with risk, just be aware. In our case, we were traveling with a large group, several of which might have had to cancel at the last minute, so we added our Disney excursions to our (non-Disney) trip insurance. This way, if we had to cancel at the last minute, we wouldn't lose the money for those excursions. It only cost us about $50 per family to add these excursions to the insurance, so for us, it was worth it to not have to worry about "what if." Like all insurance, you hope you never need it, and indeed we "wasted" the money when we all went, but we were just relived that we all made it!
