How much do you budget for excursions per person per day? I know everyone is different, but I'd love to hear some numbers. What type of excursions do you prefer?

Since excursion prices vary anywhere from $30 per person to upwards of $200 per person, it's hard to say what you should budget. It depends on what your interests are (history, beaches, active - hiking, horses, zip lines?), how many people you have (will everyone be taking the same excursions?)

Typically we prefer, the first time we are in any given port, to take whatever excursion seems to be a general overview of the city/port. Those tend to run in the $40-$75 range. Subsequent cruises to the same port, we might do another excursion that looks interesting, or do it ourselves.

Thoughts...
  • to clarify.... where are you cruising? Alaska?
  • do you plan to return to the port?
  • is the excursion experience unique?
  • look to combo excursions to get value for the port time.
  • compare the excursion to going private.

I don't necessarily set a budget. I see what is offered on board. I see what is offered (not through DCL) at each port, then go from there. Ive spent $0 off the ship in some ports and spent $700+ in others (for a family of three).
