Exclusive Resort/Theme Park ...?

We have?

Doesn't wdw rely on tax breaks etc from Orlando and Florida? Whole tourist-based industries have been built around wdw (just further away than they were built in Anaheim) and it woukd destroy that if somehow you had to stay onsite to enter the parks. And then there goes any special consideration from the local govt!

Not really. If they did to get it open, it would have all expired years and years ago. They have their own local government (RCID) They have a powerful voice in Florida government - but at a state level I don't think the legislators care too much where tourists rest their heads, as long as they are paying their hospitality taxes. And residents need the resident ticket rate to stay happy, Floridians as a group probably don't care too much about jobs cleaning hotel rooms around Disney.

I guess in a way they have a limit - which is when they close due to being at capacity. Granted that rarely happens or only on major holiday, but that is disney's limit. Crowds are how they make there money. There is no way they will start limiting access to resort only guest. Many, many people travel and try to do disney on the cheaper side -- off site, only QS meals or packing their own, only hitting parks for a few day. There would be a ton of lost revenue -- less ticket sales, less dining reservations, less purchases at the shops. Disney caters to their resort guest by allowing earlier FP and EMH. They could do more to entice people to stay on site by allowing earlier dining booking (which in a way they do with their 180+10) or extra FP's.

I don't think that you encounter too many unruly guests - if there are, they are probably promptly dealt with to eliminate the problem escalating. If people "act up" at disney they probably do so in many faucets of their life. People are generally there with family and most will try to set a good example for their children.

Thanks for all the feedback, certainly enlightening. But, I still foresee WDW someday, probably decades from now, becoming exclusive. IMHO.

Recently, we've seen an uptick of unruly behavior in the parks.

Do you have official numbers to back this up?

I bet very few of the perps were staying on property, and that much of the unruly behavior is due to overcrowding.

What basis do you make these assumptions on?

My prediction-Your prediction won't ever happen.

I figure Disney owns about 20,000 hotel rooms at WDW. If you assume there are 4 people in each room, we are up to 80,000 people. The parks average 150,000 to 160,000 people a day, and can hold a lot more in peak times. So, I will not be sharing your anxiety in this.

That's my prediction too.

It won't happen under Disney ownership. And if it's sold who knows what it would be.

I have no official numbers regarding increased unruly behavior, they're usually fudged anyway. I don't keep a catalog of the specific incidents, just what I read. Maybe with age I'm becoming less tolerant of aberrant behavior. Just as alot of us did in the 60s, hedonistic behavior was "cool", and we all, for the most part, turned out okay.

Hope your right. As long as the bottom line stays acceptable to the "men behind the curtain" and they can't squeeze another penny out of us, your prediction will prevail.
