I leave tomorrow for DL!!! :cool1: Will be there for 4 nights solo... :scared1:

Can you guess what I'm nervous about...?? I am just so worried that all I'm going to think about is that I wish DH were here, or that I feel very silly being alone at this show or that restaurant...

I know it will be fun to be able to run to each ride and not have to worry if DH is tired or hungry or whatnot, but I am afraid I'll miss having the interaction. I'm also pretty shy and feel stupid talking to people I don't know (can never think of anything to say...) ...

How do I get out of my nervousness?? :confused3

Omgosh you will have soo much fun!!!

You get to go at your own pace, not worry about other ppl...

Honestly I would love to do what you're doing, and I may have to do it for a few hours each night I'm there too, this upcoming weekend!

I envy you. I would love to have a day or 2 to do it by myself. SEE what I want to see, DO what I want to do, EAT where I want to eat. You will have a great time.

I AM SOOOOO JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :worship:
I would love to do a solo trip to DL!! My DF isn't the biggest Disney fan (ok, he's not a fan at all and I'm obsessed!:rolleyes1) and so he gets worn out faster and I do. I'm used to eating alone so that wouldn't be too bad and I LOVE LOVE LOVE to "window shop" and just browse DTD a lot, but I would be nervous about going on rides alone. It just wouldn't be as fun, I think.

But there is so much other things to do I think that as soon as you get there and the magic hits you, you won't worry one bit about being alone!

Man, I wish I was you right now.....lol:rotfl:

I think once you get there and get your "I'm having so much fun I barely even notice other people (except to make sure I'm not in their way)" blinders on you're going to have SO much fun.

If anyone thinks twice about you being alone, they'll either think that your family is off somewhere else for the moment, or they'll be jealous that you get to have this solo trip.

As for rides, I always love the single rider lines even when hubby and son are there (it's faster than rider switch when we do it), and I think it's great fun to get other peoples' perspective of the ride. Grizzly, Indy, Screamin', TSMM...all rides where you are with other people by riding the SR line (second two) or normally (the first two), and all are enhanced by the experience of strangers, IMO. We got to talking with the people in front of us in the TSMM line, and since hubby was behind me and DS (when you're seated in the same "car" you can't see each other) but the strangers were "in front" of us, DS and the dad in the stranger group kept pretending to blast each other with the shooter things whenever we'd face them. Strangers are fun on rides. :)

Bring a camera and a simple photography goal, like take pictures of all the signs or get shots of 15 different flowers/plants.

You will be occupied, forget all about being nervous, and you will probably find things in the parks you never saw before. :thumbsup2

Plus, you may bump into other photographers, and then you automatically have something to talk about!

Have fun!

I can totally relate..... I am also fairly shy and thought I would feel like a complete weirdo on a solo trip. I went by myself in March, feeling very apprehensive about the whole thing. I expected to feel weird, not talk to anyone, or feel out of place. It was a little strange at first, but then I just went with it! It's easier than you expect to talk to people (especially in the single rider line) because you already have something in common - you're at Disneyland :woohoo: I just brought a book with me for when I was eating a meal, in case I felt out of place. I didn't need it. I enjoying people watching while I had my meals - I even got brave enough to go to Blue Bayou on my own and I loved it!

I do really love going with my family, but going solo is also great. There is room for both :thumbsup2

I'm going next week too, with my son this time, so keep an eye out for LGMH (there are lots of other DISers going to be there then too!!).

See ya in the parks and have a fantabulous solo trip pixiedust:

You have NO reason to be nervous! I went solo for one day on my birthday this year, and was quite fearful about it (even posted about it here), but it was an AMAZING experience. I am STRONGLY considering getting an annual pass so that I can go there alone more often (it's only a 90 minute drive from my house).

Since I compulsively check this forum, I feel like I am a DL expert (relative to a newbie) so when I would be waiting in line and would hear some guests say something that was wrong, or something along the lines of "Oh, I wonder why that ride is closed" etc. etc. I had NO qualms with piping in and explaining it to them or letting them know where they could find something, and they were so impressed and thankful for tips. I feel like 95% of the people at DL are happy and friendly, so I found it quite easy to make conversation if I wanted, but at other times, if I didn't, I turned my ipod on while waiting in line and that worked just fine too :)

I love going by myself! i got to experiance this for the first time in during August when my mother and I went to California for a weekend. My mother does not have the Disney gene, so during this trip she found other things to do in the area.

I had a wonderful time exploring the park by myself for a couple days. Don't worry about it. You will have a great time! It is really nice not to have to worry about other people and to be able to take the park at your own pace.

:goodvibes Thank you for all the support!! I already feel better about it. The thing I have most looked forward to are the SR lines which DH always insists we DON'T do :confused3 but now I get to use them. I didn't even consider that I would then be with a bunch of other people who are SR's too!

I have my kindle packed, along with my camera (thanks for the photo goal tip, too!) so hopefully you are all right and I just forget my fears after entering the park for the first time... :lovestruc

Just so daunting! But, maybe this will pave the way for more solo trips!! :rotfl:

Edit: I also just found out about the "green mickey" thing so I made mine today and will attach it to my backpack. I hope to see some other green mickeys!

I agree with the previous posters. Solo trips are so much fun - you get to be your own boss and be selfish, doing only the things you want. My last trip to DL I was getting ticked because my friend didn't want to do any of the dark rides, do any of the shows, and go on rides that I think are just okay. I'm doing a solo trip for Thanksgiving and can not wait

You'll have a blast.

I'll have mine on, so if you see me say HELLO!!!

Yay for Kindles! That department is where hubby works. :)

Just...maybe...don't take it on rollercoasters. Someone took theirs on RocknRollerCoaster at WDW and it didn't survive the trip. :headache:

Then again, I don't know what sort of padding they had around the kindle or if it was just put into the pocket.

I got one of those paksafe backpacks with padding...I don't think the kindle will move at all and I hope not since my camera is in there too!

Thanks again for all of your encouragement...I'm at the airport now!

My hubby is like that too, shy, he thinks that everyone is staring at him. Just try to remember that people AREN'T looking at you unless they are wishing they were you. Try not to be self conscious. Have a great time.
