Excited... and a little nervous

When we drove to the fort last time we were towing our hybrid. We live near Buffalo, NY so it's about 19 hours drive time. We took two and a half days to get there. That's the plan this summer too. We will leave early Saturday, stop for the night, drive Sunday, stop for the night, and have just a couple hours to go on Monday. Our kids will be 14 and 17, and they are very used to long drives. But this time we are bringing both dogs. I think they will need more stops than the kids. LOL

We are looking at the 100 loop for next spring break. Have you always got your request met when you ask for the 100 loop? What site # is your favorite?
The 100 loop is our favorite. I have always had my request for 100 granted. (I know I've been fortunate) I typically go down in late May or June after school is out. One year we did do spring break and got into 100. I don't really have a favorite site. Being at the back near the walk to the trading post is nice.

Have you ever taken you bikes down or do you get a golf cart? If bikes is the trek to the main pool that long?
We always take the bikes and have never used a cart (too cheap). The pool is a nice bike ride from 100. 5-10 minutes depending on how you ride.

We too have just traded our pop up in for a 21 ft Gulfstream and have only stayed in the 1500 loop. We are looking at the 100 loop for next spring break. Have you always got your request met when you ask for the 100 loop? What site # is your favorite? Cannot wait to take the new camper down! Have you ever taken you bikes down or do you get a golf cart? If bikes is the trek to the main pool that long? Sorry about all the questions, but I have not seen many post from 100 loopers lately. Thanks for any input.:cool1:

We, too, love the 100 loop and have almost always gotten our request. It doesn't matter to us which site there we get - at one time or another have been in most of them. ;)

We have never brought our bicycles or rented a cart. We prefer to walk or catch the internal buses. We love to use our bicycles at various destinations that we camp, but would not use them enough at the Fort to haul them down. :) Every family has different schedules while there, so it's personal decision on what you decide to do.

I thought I'd report back on how things ended up going for our long drive with the TT. I was actually surprised at how well the drive down went. It ended up taking us about 20 hours- and that included sitting in the dreadful traffic btwn DC and Richmond for 2 1/2 hrs. That's about the same time that it took with the pop up as well. Of course we did see a pretty big increase in the cost to drive it... Holy cow, we really had to fill up quite a bit.

While there, the weather was great (one cool day) and we had a fun time. I always enjoy how friendly everyone is there. While we enjoy staying at the resorts as well, no one ever seems to chat to one another like they do at the Fort. We are looking forward to August where we will hopefully relax a bit more than we did on this trip.

Things didn't go quite as smoothly as it did on the ride home. Had to stop and get a sway bar which took some time. Plus, it rained..... the ENTIRE time. We were pretty tired and ended up pulling into a rest stop. That was certainly a perk from the trading in the pop-up. We were able sleep in the camper for several hours and woke up rested and ready to go. The one thing that we did discover when we pulled over, was that water got into the camper. We are thinking that it must have come in through the main door or front storage door bc those were the areas that were wet. I mean, it had really been pouring and I guess it could have gotten in from all the splashing when passing other cars/trucks??? Ever happen to anyone else?

Anyway, we can't wait to use our camper this summer locally at the beach, and of course go back to our favorite place :). Thanks to all for your input and suggestions!

Dindy...glad y'all got down and back safely. Sorry to hear about the water...I have friends who had the same kind of issue. Based on what they found out about their RV you may want to check the seals around the doors and windows. If I remember correctly, they had a door that wasn't sealing properly.

We had water come in front window with the stone guard, but only when a roof vent was open.

Good to be home safe and sound. Now start picking a return date.
