I would like to take a look at the DVC club and possible purchase when we make our trip to Disney World. DH is still a little leary. I guess what would sell it most to either of us is the exchanging...I obviously know that you will get your most money out of it if you go to Disney every year. However, at some point we are going to need a change...So do the points exchange well when you wanna go to other places say like Las Vegas, California, or Pennsylvania? Or even a cruise line? :confused3

Exchanges can be a nice option if you choose not to visit Disney. The "value" of these trades is much in the eye of the beholder.

DVC does have good oppportunity for equitable trades. Members should educate themselves in how these exchange programs work before making assumptions as there is some misunderstanding about the availability.

If you expect being able to exchange to a Hawaii resort next month, you will likely be disappointed. If you want that exchange in 2009, you may have better success if you deposit your points now and request an ongoing search - as there are limitations for these programs.

You wil even find disagreement regarding the "value" of the non-DVC options. Some will use an amount of $10-12 per point as the "value" of a DVC point since that is where many will have success renting their points by making reservations for others. Others may suggest that the "value" of a point is just what you paid in maintenance fees. Neither is wrong - but the "value" of a point will vary based on how you wish to view the answer.

ALmost everyone will agree that the best "value" for DVC points is when they are used at DVC resorts.

Enjoy! :)

IMO it is a poor choice to buy DVC with the idea of exchanging. Just buy less points and look to other options for those non DVC trips. Cash and other timeshares can work well depending on the type of options you seek. In spite of what you will hear on this board, DVC really doesn't trade as well as you'd think. Cruises are even worse in terms of value.
