Exchanging park hoppers for AP

I think I saw somewhere on one of these boards that you could exchange your unused days on park hoppers as credit towards the AP and PAP. Is this true and how do I do that? I have an totally unused $259 5-day park hopper and I'm trying to decide if it is worthwhile to trade it in and get me and DH PAP's?? Any thoughts, or assistance?

Just take your unused pass to a Guest Services location at one of the major parks or Downtown Disney. If you bought the original pass from Disney (including the Disney Store), you will be given creidt for the full price you paid for that pass. You'll pay only the difference between the DVC discounted AP (or PAP) price and the unused pass. You can only get credit for one pass for each AP/PAP purchased. (You can't use two PH passes and get only one AP/PAP).

If you bought the original pass from a discount broker, you'll only get credit for the wholesale price of the pass.

Best wishes -

P.S. If you want lots of details on upgrading tickets (or getting dollar credit for partially used tickets), check out this link:

Use old tickets, give them to friends, donate to charity, etc...

but definitely not worth it to trade up. You will lose BIG time.

To add, you will only get the price paid, not the current value of the ticket. It might or might not be worth it depending on your needs and what ticket type you're going to as well as how you will use it.

Goldi--
Can you expound on that? I'm trading in a totally unused $259 ph. So I get $259 credit? So that would be worth it, no? Or do you just think AP and PAP's are a waste?
Thanks:)

Cody, maybe in your case, the $259 would be worth it...

Buy I invite family and friends, and so will need 1 or 2 day passes to give them, and with the MYW tickets, the cost is going up.... up to $60 at the highest.

I have some old, unused tickets that are worth around $30 / piece. So I'd be trading in approx tickets for 2 days, to get 1 day of the new stuff, which may or not have park hopping on them, or expirations....

I decided this, by taking all my old tickets to the Guest relations, and the person there said I'd be much better off saving my old tickets, and using them as fillers..... I suggest you do this as well, and they can help you decide whether it's worth it for you. I think the older the tickets, the less value you get for them, so it's better to use them, than to upgrade. If your ticket is relatively new, you get a better deal.

So I guess it depends on what you're doing, but basically the prices will only go up, as a general trend.

If that's what you paid, that's what you should get. What you can't do is look at the current prices as they do not increase your value for old tickets, even if unused. I'm sure what Goldi is saying is that you may indeed be paying more per day for the tickets you purchase than on the old tickets but it will depend on your choices and usage. If you see the new system as being far better than the old, it may be good to trade it in, especially if you go for a 7 or 10 day pass that does not expire.

You need to ask how many days you will be using your AP or PAP before it expires. The DVC price of $314 for AP or $415 for PAP might make your trade worthwhile if you will be using the pass for multiple visits. I have also considered doing this, since we have 2 new 5 day hoppers plus many other hoppers with a day or 2, and we now buy APs for ourselves. However, we have decided to save these hoppers for our guests because they are a bargain compared to new prices, especially for those times when only a couple of days are needed.

Here's a question for those of you in the "know": I realize unused Pluses have no value when trading up...but if you do, do you have to surrender the ticket completely or do you get to retain the Pluses? Sorry if this has already been discussed. I tried to do a search and couldn't find anything specific enough.

i have 3 FITS vouchers i bought to use. as DVC now I think i'd rather get the discounted AP and DDE. Anyone know if I can trade those in or just try to sell?

thanks

I had a similar question because we recently purchased 5+4 hoppers that we havent used. If the 4 plus days have no value when trading in, It's like giving them back to Disney for free.

OTOH, we have considered using the plusses on our next trip and then trade in the 5 hopper days for the broker value of the ticket.

You do not get to retain the plus options in this case. You would essentially be donating them to Disney.
