Exchanges in Southern Cal??

Has anyone tried any of these exchanges yet? I would appreciate any feedback you might have. We are going to be in California in July, 2003 for 2 weeks. Any idea if that would be considered low, mid or high season.

Summer is usually high season in California. Shutters is a concierge collection therefore it trades on a nightly basis. Four Seasons is a luxury class resort- studio rooms there start around $450+/night.

I did a trade two years ago for the Four Seasons Aviara resort in Carlsbad. About 1 1/2 hours north of San Diego. The resort was absolutely beautiful. I took a studio, which was about three times larger than the studio's at OKW. There was a king size bed, a large sitting area with a full size couch, a kitchen area and a huge bathroom. It is attached to a Four Seasons Hotel, so you can use all their facilities as well. We went in May, and they accepted a studio in January for the trade, so it only cost us 55 points for the full 7 days. Anita.

I would love to get feedback on what you think about taking kids to the four seasons resort, or is it too adult oriented?

To be honest, there weren't very many children there. There are a few things in the immediate area for kids, but most of the other stuff would be quite a drive. It really depends on what they like and how old they are. The resort itself is more geared to adults.

We stayed at the Marriott Newport resort 2 years ago. It was very nice and a beautiful resort. It was still in the making so it wasn't very large then. The location is very nice with many large and expensive homes. I would recommend it to anyone staying in the area. We were only disappointed in the time of year we chose. We didn't know that May is a bad time of year for pretty ocean views. We would stay there again.

If you plan to visit the area, we usually have crummy weather from mid-May to the begining of July. It is overcast and can be a bit cold (relative term especially for those who brave the white winters). We call it the June gloom. Sometimes it stays only in June, and other times, it creep into May and July. One note -- you can get a really bad burn during June gloom. Make sure and pack sunscreen.

Now, in January, we usually get quite a number of warm, clear (no smog) days. That's my favorite month.
