What time do you usually wake up, and sleep?

I get up at 6 to get the oldest DSs to school. On weekends, the cat thinks I've overslept and is nice enough to get in my face and meow.

I go to bed way too late, but it's the time I can sit and read, etc.

Up at 7am very grudglingly unless it is a beautiful day and I have somewhere fun to go. I am so not a morning person. As for lights out, it is usually around midnight which is way too late but I never seem to manage much earlier. I really should be a 9 hours a night girl - must try to be a bit more disciplined. :sad2:

From where you live, are you able to see the sunrise, and the sunset? How close is the nearest ocean?

I can see both:) I am about 1800 Miles from the nearest Ocean, but only 200 from the Gulf of Mexico

I can see both and they are spectacular at times. I'm about in the middle of the country so it's about equal distance to each ocean. I can get down to the Gulf of Mexico in about five hours from here.

I can't see the sunrise and sunset...too many trees around us. I live 1/3 mile from the mighty Fraser River....does that count???;) Have a great day!

Trish

I can see a nice sunset over the hills and we are a 15 minute drive to the North Sea which is waaaaaay too cold and grey for my liking.

I am able to see the sunset, but since the trees had gotten tall, I am not able to see it set from the house.

Happy birthday to my husband. :cheer2: Growing up, for my birthday, my mom would either make us our favorite dishes for dinner, or we would go out to eat. So, todays QOTD is-

How did you celebrate your birthdays growing up, and now as an adult? How do you celebrate your family members birthdays?

As a child, I had a couple of parties with friends but for the most part, my mom just baked my favorite cake.

Once we had kids, my mom would have a special Sunday dinner for her grandkids for their birthdays. This continued until my sister ruined it when her twins turned 17. A long story I won't go into but we don't do birthday dinners at grandma's house anymore because of it.

Joe and I usually go out to dinner for our birthdays since we were born 24 hours apart. We used to go to the State Fair since our birthdays are during it but haven't the last couple of years. For the kids, when they were young, we had family parties. Once they started school, we had their friends over. I used to fix their favorite meal for dinner and bake the cake of their choice. But once they got older, we began going out to the restaurant of their choice, usually one that would sing "Happy Birthday" to them. And when they got older, they wanted store bought cakes, so I just let them pick what they wanted.

Carol had her 18th birthday party Sunday night. She loves Batman so we had Batman everywhere, even her cake has the Batman symbol. We cooked hamburgers and sent them on a scavenger hunt where they had to collect things plus take group pictures doing stuff. They came back and played games and just hung out. Her friends are such a great group of kids!

Happy birthday to your DH. :)

As a child I had small traditional birthday parties. My DD's birthdays are either side of Halloween so we usually have a party for each on the Sayurday before and after Halloween. When they were little it was popular to have a bouncy castle, swimming pool or play centre party. The party that still gets talked about is a mystery party about a school for witches and a stolen broomstick that my oldest had when she was 10. Last year she had a pamper party for a few friends and theye did each others hair, feet. makeup etc and it was great fun. Family birthdays are small and usually just at home. This year my dad is 60 on Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) and my mum has suggested we all go out for a meal before seeing in the New year at their home. I have suggested a trip to a pantomime which would be great fun! It's going to be good whatever we do. We will also have some belated birthday celebration in WDW the following year. I'm thinking big cake and embarassing sing song at Whispering Canyon Cafe. :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Thank you.

My daughter's birthday is in Sept. and I am already thinking of what we should do for her birthday.princess:

Do you have people that come to your house trying to sell you something?-(Ex. candy, Girl Scouts cookies, wrapping paper, car wash tickets?) And if so, do you purchase any items?

Yes, and I only will buy things from people from our High School...

Not very often. We live about 200 feet off of the road so most people don't want to make the walk. When we do, it's usually neighborhood children. I only buy from them or other kids that I know. And I don't pay up front unless I know them.

People do not usually come up our road to sell us things since we have a private drive way, as well as dogs, and a sign that says private property. But, there are many times a year that people either mistake our driveway for the next one above us, or church people come around. There was even this boy once who said that he was selling things for his school, and he tried to invite himself into the house. I asked him where he lived, and told him that he needed to be careful since there are dogs that are lose up, and down the road. I didn't buy anything from him, and thought that it was weird since it was just at the start of the school year. But, I did see him walking around once, so I guess he is from this area.
But, I buy things from people I know, or clubs, and such that sell things in front of stores...

I mail birthday cards but have decided to send and e-card instead this year to those whom I have their e-mail address. Getting a little greener!

When my nephews were little, I used to send them a card for every holiday. And when their sister was born, I sent the 3 of them cards. Then when their cousin was born, I sent the 4 of them cards. Then when his sister was born, I sent the 5 of them cards. Then when another nephew & then another niece was born, I sent the 7 of them cards. But sometime after that I stopped! The cost of cards, postage just seems crazy!
