keep the money in the bank.get a fee free credit card, that give you the full bank rate and not the tourist
And open a nationwide flexaccount to get cash out from a atm from your current account,with the same bank rates

You can compare some of the exchanged here but they are poor compared with fee free card like Paul says. Nationwide has saved me £100's

As has been said, the nationwide Card is your best option if you have a good credit rating. it's safer too as you can cary less money abroad and simply withdraw from ATM's as and when you need it (at a better exchange rate)
Failing that, we've always use Marks & Spencer but it's worth keeping an eye on the comparison site. Don't though buy at the Airport before you leave the UK.....terrible rates
