Well, I bought the remaining monies for our early December WDW trip and wound up paying over 62% exchange. It made me wonder how many of us die-hard Disney World fans will continue to pay such a premium to go to our favourite place on the planet. I personally don't consider the present Canadian Hopper deal is enough incentive, especially when I think of the money we spend on meals and accomodations in order to fully enjoy the Disney experience. Oh well, we'll be sure to make the most of this visit, since this could be our last trip in quite a while. I was informed just yesterday of my layoff from the CBC after 24 years of service but hey!...I'm going to Disney World!!! P.S. to my Windsor area Dis friends...pleases let me know of any jobs you may hear of...

Hi WDWBob. Just wanted to say hi from Chatham and to tell you to have a great time on your trip. Sounds like you need it! The exchange rate is terrible, right now - hope you got a good rate on your hotel. There are still excellent rates out there. I can't believe you got laid off with that much seniority at CBC. Things must really be tough there. What kind of work did you do there? I'll keep an eye out for you for opportunities in Kent County.

Hey Bob....don't know if this helps you any, but WTN (Women's Television Network) just announced they've been bought by Corus and are being relocated from Winnipeg to Toronto. 60 jobs lost locally

Anyways, might be something there to look into?

Thanks for the encouragement Pooh and Marion. These boards sure did help cut as many corners as possible especially when it came to accomodations. I didn't even know you could rent DVC members' points until I joined the Dis. We'll be staying at BWV for a fraction of the rack rate. Things have been downright awful at the mother corp for some time. This was just the latest in a long series of layoffs starting in 1984. I guess I should be thankful my career lasted as long as it did. I am an on-air booth technician(sometimes called Master Control). I physically control the on-air signal that you see at home. I not only make sure the correct program is on, I insert all the local ads during shows like Hockey Night in Canada.(that is until CBC decided a computer in Toronto could do the same thing). The sad thing though is I was actually one of the youngest to get a layoff notice. Our once thriving station is now a mere skeleton of the past with the CBC becoming more and more centralized in Toronto. That's the irony of your kind suggestion Marion; I could transfer to a job in Toronto in a second, but my wife who makes more than I, would have to leave her job. We're really caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place. I've decided to stay in this area and try to find something, somewhere to do. Besides, we leave for the magic in 9 more days. Things are already looking up!!

Thank you for the positive encouragement Tiger926. I'm sure everything will work out fine, in fact I think this could be our best trip yet!!

WDWBOB1 - I'm really sorry to hear about your job loss. Mass layoffs just seem to be the way of the world, right now. My DH lost his job about 6 weeks ago, though I'm happy to report that he's been at a new job for the past two weeks. Things were pretty scary, since he's the only wage earner in the family. First of all, I'd like to say that I hope you find new employment soon! Secondly, I hope you and your family have a great time at WDW!

Thanks CindyAnn, I consider myself lucky to have a working spouse so things could be a lot worse. Maybe afternoon soaps and fuzzy slippers are in my future....but then again maybe not!!! Thanks again everyone..only 7 more days to our dream trip!

Oh my! It is a small world after all...

I am CBC Radio National News Toronto... *faints*

Please be in touch! I am heading off to DISCON early in the morning but I cannot believe there is another CBCer on the DIS! *faints*

I am so sorry to hear of your news... I've been redundant four times already and bumped twice... hang in there!

Thanks Taryn, This is number 4 for me also, but this time there's no one to bump or take a retirement for me to replace. Have a great trip and leave a beaver tail for me!!!
