Exchange Questions

We've been toying with DVC for a while now, but must make the all important house purchase first so DVC is still a year or more out of reach. In the meantime I am researching. I have some questions about exchanges. I know this isn't the 'best' use of points but would like to know the answers anyways.

1. DVC exchanges through Interval International right? And you just pay an exchange fee? Do you do it through Interval or through DVC?

2. What about RCI? That's the other 'name' I hear tossed around when people talk about exchanging their time share.

3. If it is Interval International that DVC exchanges through, can other Interval owners exchange INTO DVC? A couple of years ago I had 'heard' it was at least a 3 year wait list and then only OKW, but within the last year or 2 could swear I've read on various boards of people exchanging into DVC within a 7 month-ish window and not just OKW. The reason I ask this is my parents own a timeshare w/ Interval and have previously exchanged for a resort offsite but would love to trade into a DVC resort to stay onsite w/ us 'at some point when our schedules match'

1. DVC is a corporate member of II. DVC members only option is to go through DVC directly. They do not have access to II regarding DVC even if they are members of II otherwise. No yearly II fee, the exchange fee is currently $75 domestic or International ($135 & $149 for regular non DVC II exchanges).

2. DVC was with RCI and moved to II in 95 or 96. Ken May, previous DVC head, now runs RCI. I understand that RCI made a big push to get DVC back when the contract was up for renewal a couple of years ago, expect to hear that rumor again in a couple of years.

3. I am a DVC member as well as an II member. I have traded in to DVC a number of times and have a 1 BR for BWV for Sept and a 2 BR for SSR for Dec upcoming. One needs very good trade power and to be flexible. Flexible generally means smaller units and/or off time. Jan, Feb, May, Sept, Oct and early Dec are not that hard for a 1 BR or smaller. OKW and SSR are mostly available but I've seen everything from time to time including 2 BR at VWL and at BCV.
