Hi! I'm a member of the YMCA in my town, but I don't live near it, so it's difficult for me to get there, and I don't go very often. So, I've decided to start working at home!:yay: Can anybody give me advice on different excercises or direct me to any websites regarding it? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Put some music on and jog in place or do sit ups. That's always helped me. I can't think of any websites off the top of my head, but just type in exercises and you should get good results. Good luck!!! :sunny:

I, for one, think this should be a sticky. This is a common question and very useful to all.

After dieting for several months, I notice that walking worked best for me. Perhaps, it may be because I was never active. However, once I started walking and eating the right foods the pounds came off like crazy!

I am now successfully keeping off the weight that I once lost by walking daily and doing situps.

So, I suggest you walk. If you walk two miles a day - how about make the jump to four. A small improvement is better than no improvement.

ETA: I am working on my stomach area and sit ups are not working. Any suggestions? :confused3

The poster above is correct. Walking is the best exercise. Start out at 15-20 minutes a day or every other day. Soon you will be feeling refreshed and ready to take on more. After a few weeks, add 5-10 minutes to your walking and then try to add sit-ups and crunches to your workout. This will have you working between 30-40 minutes a day or other on your body and is considered the best form of workout (and it's FREE).

Buy a pedometer to see how much you walk duing the course of one day. Your goal will be to maintain 10,000 steps a day. That is equal to 5 miles which would make you an active person.

This will help you with any concerns that you have towards, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesteral and heart conditions.

Good luck to you.

Side to side exercises work better than sit ups, as they stretch more muscles, so try some side to side exercises with crunches.

I totally agree with everything DisneyFan06 said, walking has helped me loose 20 pounds, and is a great way to get ready for Disney.

Thanks, I will certainly start trying those first thing in the morning. :grouphug:

My family doesn't own a car, so we usually walk everywhere. I think I may go for nightly walks though, or maybe some jogging. Are jumping jacks good too?

Btw, thank you so much for your advice!

I went to a couple of Silhouette Gym and abdo gym group classes. I don't like to work out in group like that, BUT now I know which exercises to do at home!!!
They are too difficult to explain here, but maybe you could do the same thing? Or buy some videos?

I usually just do Walk Away the Pounds, Video Tapes. I dont have anyone to really walk with me especially in this Florida heat - so that is my best bet for now.

Now, if I could only get those Abs! :bitelip:

For $59.99, I bought a TransFirmer at Dick's Sporting Goods. It is a step system that comes with 3 workout DVDs. I think they are fun to do. They use light weights for some exercises, the step in different positions, and regular old aerobic moves. Boy, do I sweat doing these. They recommend that you do specific tapes on different days, usually only 3X per week.

I'm now looking to buy another step so my DD can do this with me.
