When I booked our 4 night stay at the DLH, I had two options. 1) book with The Disneyland Resort, get a guarnateed premium view - Downtown Disney room or 2) buy the WDTC package, save $100 total, but no guarantee of view - it could be either DTD or pool.
So, I decided to spend the extra $25 a night to guarantee the view I wanted. Room rate $270 + tax, yikes! About a week before our arrival, I called DLR to confirm and reinquired about the view. I was assured that I would get the DTD view.
We arrived at about 8:00pm on Thursday of last week. Checked in and headed up to the room, only to find a very nice view from our Sierra Tower room - of the pool.
So, I called down to the front desk and very nicely explained the above - about the $100 difference. She put me on hold for a moment and returned to apologize that there were no DTD rooms left, and offered to refund $100. I said "great, that will be fine. thanks."
So, Disney had a satisfied customer. At that point they really didn't need to do anything further. But....
About 5 minutes later the phone rang. It was the same lady from the front desk. She said, "I took another look at your reservation and see that you are paying $270 a night for our Premium View package. We really should have given you that correct view. I know I offered to refund you $100, but I want to offer you something even better. How about if I change your room rate from $270 to $180 a night for each of your four nights?" Are you kidding? I said.
So, there you go. Disney went above and beyond expectations. They didn't have to make that second call, but they did. For the record, I was extremely nice and understanding when we first talked. So, I also chalk part of it up to getting more with honey than you do with vinegar. Or, at least try honey first, then turn to vinegar when you need to.
In addition, all of the CMs we ran into at the hotel were fantastic. It was an all-around great time.
