When I booked our 4 night stay at the DLH, I had two options. 1) book with The Disneyland Resort, get a guarnateed premium view - Downtown Disney room or 2) buy the WDTC package, save $100 total, but no guarantee of view - it could be either DTD or pool.

So, I decided to spend the extra $25 a night to guarantee the view I wanted. Room rate $270 + tax, yikes! About a week before our arrival, I called DLR to confirm and reinquired about the view. I was assured that I would get the DTD view.

We arrived at about 8:00pm on Thursday of last week. Checked in and headed up to the room, only to find a very nice view from our Sierra Tower room - of the pool. :(

So, I called down to the front desk and very nicely explained the above - about the $100 difference. She put me on hold for a moment and returned to apologize that there were no DTD rooms left, and offered to refund $100. I said "great, that will be fine. thanks."

So, Disney had a satisfied customer. At that point they really didn't need to do anything further. But....

About 5 minutes later the phone rang. It was the same lady from the front desk. She said, "I took another look at your reservation and see that you are paying $270 a night for our Premium View package. We really should have given you that correct view. I know I offered to refund you $100, but I want to offer you something even better. How about if I change your room rate from $270 to $180 a night for each of your four nights?" Are you kidding? I said.

So, there you go. Disney went above and beyond expectations. They didn't have to make that second call, but they did. For the record, I was extremely nice and understanding when we first talked. So, I also chalk part of it up to getting more with honey than you do with vinegar. Or, at least try honey first, then turn to vinegar when you need to.

In addition, all of the CMs we ran into at the hotel were fantastic. It was an all-around great time.

We debated spending the extra money and staying at the DL Hotel... we were SOOooo glad we did! :goodvibes It made our vacation so much more enjoyable (right beside DTD and we LOVE the rainforest cafe!) and magical! :wizard: (we loved the glowing 'pixie dust'! and the beautiful beds )

Sweet! It goes to show you that being nice and cordial up front with the CMs(or anyone, for that matter) will go far.

I love hearing about all the great experiences at the DLH! I also love to hear that it is worth the extra money! We will be staying there in Aug. and can't wait to experience the extra magic this time! We don't go into anything thinking everything will go perfectly. We know that humans do error. We all do. We are easy-going people (especially when we are on vacation!!) and also believe that honey works better than vinegar!! :flower:

You'll have a great time, I'm sure. Of the 3, our favorite is definitely the DLH. It seems to capture that "Disney Magic". If you're easy going and understanding, then any problems that come up will sure to be resolved. Have a great trip!

I love to hear about good experiences! :flower:
I got the one night free deal through Expedia, so will be paying an average of $165 for our 5-night stay. For that rate I don't care what view I get (we won't be spending much time in the room), my only requests were non-smoking and a bathroom with a separate vanity - very important since there will be 5 of us getting ready every morning! I have visited but never stayed there; looking forward to a fun time!

I have stayed at the DLH a total of 5 times now and have always had excellent service there. In fact its my favorite hotel anywhere. One of my favorite things about this hotel is the free rollaways! Kind of strange but since I have a boy and girl either getting a daybed or a free rollaway is really nice. It irks me when hotels either don't have them or charge some stupid $15 per night fee. I know a lot of people don't think it's worth the extra money to stay at the DLH (or any other onsite DL hotel) but to me it is. I agree that a good attitude always helps! Once the lady checking in ahead of me was just giving the CM the worst time because she didn't want to be in the room they gave her, I believe she had an AP rate. Anyway when my turn came up I told her any room was fine and I ended up with a wonderful 11th floor view of the pool and Disneyland, it was fabulous! I also went there with my brother and his wife and they are very particular and used to staying in the best places. They loved it and are going back in January. I know that staying onsite at Disneyland doesn't offer quite the same variety of perks as the onsite hotels at WDW but we still think its the only way to go! For the record the staff at Paradise Pier was also wonderful but we loved the DLH the most.

Good for you! It's great when you get someone nice like that.
I had a less than magical experience two weeks ago and sometimes I think it's because I am an AP holder. We never complained to any of the CM's but still not much help :confused3
