I have child whose favorite Disney characters are the 7 dwarfs. He is 37.5 inches barefoot, 38 with his regular shoes. The mine ride restriction is 38 inches. Does anyone know how he will come out on the measuring thing? Is it exactly 38?

Nobody can tell you. Just prepare him for the possibility he might be turned down.

Ride early in the day since people are tallest then.

Also tell him his goal is to hit the height bar. Some sort of shrink away from it.

My son is just a smidge over 40 inches and was measured and re measured at most of the 40" rides.
We practiced at home standing up straight and tall and I told him specifically that he needed to bump his head on the bar if he wanted to ride.
They did not measure him for the mine train so I can't speak for that ride, but I assume they are all accurate based on the ones we went through.

Last time we went my niece was right at 40 inches. Sometimes she made it on the over 40 rides, sometimes she was denied. my only tips are practice having him hit his head on the bar. If there is any light coming through he won't make it. Also try first thing in the morning. We all are slightly taller early in the day.

We measured my granddaughter last night and she is also 38". We are pretty confident she will be 40 inches by next fall so she can ride everything she wants to. I remember my daughter making it through one measurement for Alien Encounter and then at the entrance the measured her again and would not let her on. She was upset and we had no idea they measured them more than once.

I have deleted this comment as it's clear people on Disboards have lost their sense of humour. It was said tongue in cheek, with an emoji used afterwards to keep it light-hearted.

If they can fit a card through under the bar they won't let them on. My oldest was told no at Expedition Everest and then the CM goes "Some people probably would have let her on, but not me." Like ***, dude. Its fine to say no, but there was no need to basically make my kid cry by saying she could have got on with someone else working.

Standing up straight like a soldier will do it and if all else fails then it's built-up shoes and spiky hair :ssst:

We may have had extra socks in the heel of the shoes of my just barely 40" DD. In any case, she measured tall enough to ride all of the 40" rides that were open in Universal (Simpsons, Minions, Spiderman, Transformers) and WDW (Splash, Star Tours, Soarin', TT, Tower of Terror). She had an issue at the second measuring station at Star Tours one night during evening EMH when she was tired and slouching. To her credit, she was totally OK with it while I was getting upset, but I was easily mollified by some extra FP+'s.

One tip; a cast member had her stretch her arms outward in triumph, and when she did that, she immediately measured at 40".

The height restriction rules are for the child's safety. The restraints are tested to be correct for those heights. Built up shoes and spikey hair put the child at risk and are not wise.
It was a joke, which is why I used an emoji after the comment :rolleyes2

My daughter was just barely a fraction over 38” last March (with shoes on). They measured her every time, and usually again just before getting onto the rides. When we go this Jan, I expect she will be just a fraction over 40” and it will be much the same. I hope we can ride Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain RR, Test track, etc... but as has been mentioned, if she isn’t quite to the 40” mark, while I’d be disappointed, it’s for their safety, so I won’t be upset/mad like I’ve seen some get.

You don't think there is some wiggle room in the minimum height? Disney is really willing to risk having a kid fall out of a roller coaster because a cast member didn't look closely enough for 1/2 an inch of spiky hair or thick soled shoes? If you want to say that exaggerating heights through hair and shoes is "cheating" or bad parenting that's fine. Risky, for a half an inch or so? Not a chance

CMs are on to the whole raise the hair up thing anyway. And they do know to look for thick soled shoes too and may have your child remove their shoes to measure. So if your child just hits a level with normal shoes it is a very bad idea to try to cushion that height a bit. Could end up backfiring in a big way. But yeah, any attempt to add height is definitely trying to cheat the system.

Btw, as you are fairly new here you must not know it is against the rules of the board to post ways to get around any Disney rule.

I agree. There is no way these height restrictions are exactly on the cusp of what is safe or not. That is way too risky for a company like Disney. It is safer to add some amount to the the absolute safe minimum height, and post that as the height restriction, so that there is no danger if a slightly under height rider slips by.

I have NEVER had them ask to remove my child's shoes and they both have been at the "barely" 38", 40", etc. If it is that close, just buy some tennis shoes that make them a little taller just to be sure. Your child is 38", so no cheating or safety issue involved. It will make you and your child a bit more relaxed.

Maxiesmom, the inference you are making here is uncalled for, and a sure fire way to discourage new posters. MKNJ is clearly not posting a way to get around any rule.

MKNJ, please don't be upset by this thoughtless comment. When I first joined this board, I started a thread in which I posed a legitimate question. I was accused of "trying to scam Disney", and of trying to find "a way around the system". I was accused of bring a troll, and while no one accused me directly of violating board rules, a moderator felt it necessary to post "It is against board guidelines to discuss ways to circumvent Disney policy", and the inference was clear, just as it is here. While I took the time to clearly explain why these claims were unfounded (except for the Troll comment, since the thread was closed immediately after it was made), it still felt terrible to be treated so poorly.

Despite this, I decided to remain a contributing member of this community. I hate to see new posters treated the way you were, as I know how it feels, and I hope you will not be discouraged by one unfair comment.

Thanks JohnneeO. I appreciate your jumping in here. I took that response as simply coming from someone with too much time on their hands. No harm done. Besides, for what it's worth, I wasn't even the first one to mention hair and shoes so maybe the comment wasn't directed at me . Maybe I'm going too far now, but, I don't really consider this so much of a "rule". There are no financial implications to the corporation. The only possible effect on others is that one car on a ride is filled that may not have been otherwise. More importantly, spiky hair and thick soles is not exactly a complex plan.

Bottom line, if bending a rule a bit allows a 4 year old on a ride, then bend away.

Thanks again for the support though.

Please don't apologize for me. Disney has set a height and no, there is no wiggle room on it. And yes, it is against the rules here to share ideas or ways to get around any of Disney's rules, even the height restriction. I was actually being sincere when offering that MKNJ may not no that was against the rules, they certainly are not the first to post something like that. Note that I didn't attack and say "Be gone heathen rule breaker!!".

And yes, I have seen them take kids shoes off, and I have seen them push down on hair. But then, I have also seen parents distract a CM while one slipped by with another child. You see all sorts of stuff when family members like rides you do not so you wait behind. Thinking you can try something new and get your smidge too short child by a CM is setting you and the child up for heartbreak. They are on to it, trust me.

I didn't see it as the OP looking for ways to beat the system. I read it as them asking how accurate the measurement is.
