and tulips and crocuses and salvia and tickseed and, sigh, dandelions.

We had a lovely weekend, and I started clearing out the dead leaves from the gardens, and weeding one section that had seen less attention previously. I planted a ton of stuff last year, including nine roses, and now I'm eager to see them start blooming again.

How are your gardens doing? It's been a relatively mild winter here in Massachusetts, and it feels like spring is starting early. Are you expecting a good season for flowers and veggies? Anything special to brighten your yards this year?

I was just wandering around my yard today and noticing what is already blooming and thinking about what I wanted to plant. :goodvibes Spring has come a few weeks early here in Central Pennsylvania too, after a mild winter. Thank goodness! After last years winter, I'm so grateful!

My lilac bush has buds starting to open and there are crocuses in bloom. My tulips have poked out, but I suspect that I will need to pull most of those bulbs this year since they don't all bloom anymore.

Last year, I had my front yard redone - new raised beds put in and new soil - so I have a fresh slate and I'm excited by the prospects! I may just plant annuals for a year or two.

I am also going to add several more evergreen trees to my backyard. Last year I had 3 planted along our back fence and they've done very well. I'm hoping to add 4 or 5 more this year. It gives us an extra layer of privacy that I really enjoy.

DD and I are going to have our work cut for us with her fairy gardens. We have two in old wheelbarrows and they've grown mossy and very icky over the winter. We also have a small raised garden bed in the backyard and we have been discussing what to grow there this year. Last year we had a bumper crop of tomatoes, jalapenos, squash and pickling cucumbers! I'm hoping for something smaller this year!

Can you tell I'm a little excited for spring!? :cloud9: Thanks for asking!

{{sigh}} So jealous! :flower3: We've had a really great (like once in a generation great) winter here too but it will still be mid-May before the Spring bulbs bloom. I live in Growing Zone 2, which is practically sub-arctic, and super, super dry.

SE Michigan here. Just told DH yesterday that the grass is greener than it was last year until middle of May. Worried about a lot of my perennials that jumped the gun about two weeks ago and have been through a few hard frosts since then. Woke up today to find last night's storm tore the red buds out of the mature maples out front, what a mess. Of course it's only ours, no one else's yet. We'll see if today's predicted winds whip up and blow them all out of here before some get tracked in the house.

Spring doesn't generally arrive here "for good" until mid-April, but we've had some 50 and 60 degree days lately so maybe it's early this year. :)

My daffodils and hyacinths are coming up, I just hope we don't get any more snow to cover them back up. Haven't seen signs of the tulips yet.

We completely covered my perennial flower garden last year in landscaping fabric topped with a thick layer of mulch, except for about a foot of space all along the very front where I had Zenias and where the spring bulbs come up. The other day I noticed some of them were coming up a bit under the edge of the fabric so we had to pull it back a little so they could grow. Nothing else is showing any signs of life though, and I'm anxious for everything to start coming back. Not sure I'll plant anything new out there this year as it's getting pretty full, unless something doesn't come back then I would replace it.

We don't do a vegetable garden anymore. It's just the two of us, and the last two times we had tomatoes and cucumbers they both had blight. We just buy what we want at the local farmer's market.

I have lilac bushes in the yard and I always love having them bloom, just wish they lasted longer.

We've been talking about completely redoing the landscaping around the deck on the east side of the house, and adding a small landscaped area in the back yard. We'll need a lot of mulch, and I want new bushes and perennials in both areas too.

Mid-Michigan here and I know what you mean about the grass getting green. We may have to mow in March if we don't get more snow.

Not looking forward to the forecasted winds today, 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50. We will probably lose power if it gusts a lot. :(

DH is a crop insurance adjuster and he's worried about the fruit crops, with early budding on the trees, etc.

My back grass is only a few days' growth from looking raggedy enough to need a good mowing, but no way the ground will be solid enough to do it anytime soon. Hopefully a nice breeze comes along today to blow away my redbud mess but not take out your power, or anybody else's.
