We are thinking of switching out Coral Reef and going to Tokyo Dining.

We know nothing about this resturant and would like to hear any comments from disers who have eaten there recently. which would you choose?

We are a family of four me, DH dd5 and dd3 - can chlidren go here?

we are on the DDP - are our options limited?

thanks

I would say go with Coral Reef. Tokyo is good and the kids are entertained by the chef - it's a great show - but my DD's (11 and 9) didn't really care for the food. But the adults loved the food!

we are fortunate in that our kids have very diverse appetites and love seafood so that is not an issue but a good thing to consider. Thanks :goodvibes:

Please note- tokyo dining is the sushi side of the restaurant and teppen edo is the hibachi side which the above poster is speaking of. My kids loved tokyo dining. They had great kids chicken terriyaki meals in a monorail type plate. The servers were so lovely to my children. My kids also like sushi and edamame and things like that so they were into it. That being said- they also thought the fish at coral reef were pretty cool- although I think the food there is kind of stinky. I much preferred our meal at Tokyo Dining for quality and taste= but we also like sushi

Tokyo Dining is a real imersion into Japanese culture and dining, and has many cooked dishes, not just sushi. They have grilled steak, salmon, chicken etc. served with rice and rather American steamed vegetables. They have a great many selections, but what is most striking is the quiet, polite manner with which you are served...a nice departure from a frenzied day at an amusement park and a great example for children! My DD9 really enjoyed being there!

I have not been to Teppan Edo, but know there that tables are shared, and the food is cooked at your table, hibachi style.

You would need ADRs for both!:flower3:

We have been to Teppan Edo/Tokyo Dining and Coral Reef...

Thought Coral Reef was good, but loved Tokyo Dining...

We are big sushi/sashimi eaters and the quality of the fresh fish was exceptional..better than Cali Grill IMHO..

If you and your family lean towards more conventional dining, Coral Reef is for you..if not, give Tokyo Dining a try...:thumbsup2
Either way, ENJOY!!!! :goodvibes:goodvibes

I have a review of Tokyo Dining in my Dining Review (link in my SIG.) I ate there in February.

we (myself, dh, dd9, ds6 and ds10 months) will be going to teppan edo during our trip in june and the kids are very excited about it! they love the idea of the food being cooked right in front of you, so they are more looking forward to the show part, while my husband and i really looking forward to the food itself!

I always ask people about their familiarity with Japanase restaurants in their hometowns.

Do they like the teppan hibachi tables with the "show" put on by the chef, a la Benihana? Then they would like Teppan Edo.

Do they go to the basic Japanese restaurants that serve sushi, as well as dishes like chicken (or beef) teriyaki with veggies and rice, or vegetable or shrimp tempura? Then they would like Tokyo Dining.

Both restaurants in the Japan pavilion share a common waiting area, but they are definitely treated like separate restaurants. I ate at Tokyo Dining because I wanted sushi, and I found it to be very good.

Oh, I believe you can still order sushi at Teppan Edo, even if the rest of your party is ordering a teppan-grilled meal.

Tokyo Dining is a favorite of ours. And as others have said, this is nothing like Tepan Edo, which is completely separate.

We are not sushi eaters (well my son is) but my husband and I both love Japanese food. We found the service, ambiance and food to be amazing. We enjoyed a nice dinner, unrushed, quiet and were treated to a great view of Illuminations from our table. We weren't next to the window but still had a great view and they do pipe the music in. Even if you aren't there during Illuminations, you have great views of the World Showcase. We both enjoyed our tempura and our steak (we shared) and my son said the Sushi was very good as well. To me, Tokyo Dining offers a nice mix of sushi and other Japanese foods, with the nice Japanese culture without all the hoopla and shared tables of a Tepan Edo set up. I am not fond of hibachi style restaurants with the little dinner/chef show so I am happy they have something that offers the food without the other.

We absolutely loved the way the servers took pains to make you feel very immersed in the Japanese dining experience. Of all the restaurants in the World Showcase, I think this one and Marrakesh do the best job of really portraying the actual culture, not just the food. I can't wait to go back in June for our third visit!

Thanks for all the great input! We will be looking forward to Tokyo Dining. One of the big reasons is we are looking for a less nosiy experience and less chaotic, for some reason CR alwyas seems loud and crazy.

We are still not sure how to use the dining plan and welcome more input on Tokyo Dining!
thanks a bunch!
