Everything Virtual Queue - Please Read Post 1

Yes.

I truly don’t think it has anything to do with staying at the Swan, but wanted people who may be overly optimistic about the 1 PM drop (based on non Christmas week reports) that it is as in-demand this week as the morning.
Thrill-Data (very reliable and respected data site) shows that the 1:00 drop was available until 1:18 today. So maybe you encountered a glitch?

Current policies re: return times:

Virtual Queue (VQ): anytime after BG is called until park closing.

Individual Lightning Lane (ILL$): anytime after BG is called until park closing (all attractions where guest purchased ILL$)

Lightning Lane (LL) (via Genie+): Must return within specified window. Allowed from 5 mins before to 15 mins after return time.
sorry, just to clarify, am I understanding this correctly?
ILL's are subject to a boarding group callback? Does that mean you pay for an ILL but do not get an assigned a time? I was under the impression it was an hour window like the old fast pass. or at least that is my memory from Jan 2022.

For ILLs you do get a specific hour long window.

You do get an hour callback window with an ILL$ purchase but, you can return anytime from callback time to park closing and will be allowed to ride with a purchased ILL$.

So LlI$ (separate purchase) you can enter the queue anytime after the boarding group is called eventhough it will give you a callback of an hour.

VQ (free) is like FP+ and you have to enter the queue within the hour assigned and can be denied entry if you try after the grace period (5 mins before and 15 after)?

For the free VQ you can enter any time after they call your group.

The 1-hour window is enforced only for Genie+LL, not for ILL$ or VQ.

We will be at Epcot on 12/31 and plan on trying for a BG. My son is traveling with his marching band. Their tickets are completely separate and will be given by the travel agency, I don't know what form they will be in. Is there any way he can try for a boarding group? Does anyone have experience with going to a cast member to ask for assistance if say, they didn't have a smart phone?

Today I asked that exact question at the blue umbrella as I entered Epcot.
I had forgotten my phone . They said I could come back and the castmember could try for the 1:00 drop. I didn’t bother to go back at the drop time unfortunately. I guess I figured the odds were low that I could stand in line at the exact time to wait for my turn to ask for assistance.

I had tried at 7:00 a.m. exactly on the 50th Anniversary APP from my home. It was at capacity before 7:00 turned to 7:01.
I am suspicious and wonder if this means everybody is purchasing the more expensive Individual Lightning Lane. Epcot was crowded today and it seemed like entire families had the Genie lane access which amazed me. $$$

Thanks for your answer. I figure the chances are pretty low, but he really wants to ride it!

I did the 7am VQ this morning from my offsite hotel and got Group 69. This was my only time ever trying it. I used time.gov on a second phone and force closed all other apps. I pulled down at 6:59:59 and had to refresh twice before seeing the blue button. I was shocked I got such a high boarding number but I’m thankful we got one at all.

We rode it on 12/16 with extended family but they got the VQ for us as we were flying then and the boarding group was much lower, but so were the crowds.

Good luck everyone!

The tickets will most likely have a QR code and you can easily link them to an MDE account. If he’s linked on your friends and family list.

Note: don’t use nicknames, use your and your son’s real full name verifiable with an ID - friend who went last week for the first time thought of using a nick name, but she paid full price and had Magic Mobile so skipped Will Call; ID is normally checked for discounted tickets, otherwise it’s not against Disney Policy to use a nickname (spent a while trying to figure that out). Now she will have to spend time correcting her name in the system.

If your son doesn’t have a phone he can read the numbers to you and you can add the tickets to MDE (I would do this as soon as he has them just in case any issues arise). Our tickets automatically included Genie+ (not needed for free VQ) but you may have to purchase Genie+ each morning (I recommend at 6:45 am).

Multiple people can log into the same account and try to grab a VQ. You would need magic bands, physical tickets (your son will have) or magic mobile pass to scan at the lightening lane entrance (second scan for most rides is closer to boarding; I don’t think there is a second scan for GOTG).

I would ask a trusted friend/family member back home to log into your account and try to get on the VQ as 12/31 Epcot is going to be crowded and it is a sold out day. GET wouldn’t need a smart phone as they have iPads. Your son would just need tickets, but in that case, GET would only be able to grab one for him (not you). Highly unlikely GET would be able to grab one on 12/31 (lines for GET can be long as well). I’ve seen them try unsuccessfully for an older couple for a different ride.

How fast did the VQ sell out today? It’s unavailable at 1:19 pm. Trying to estimate how it will be for our deluxe extended evening hours night 1/2.

Wait times are 100+ for the major rides at Epcot today (saw Soarin at 150 around noon)

I don’t believe so. I got a VQ today 12/31, rather easily.

Is it possible to modify the time of a VQ now that "modify" is available for Genie+, or is that only available for Genie+ attractions?

A VQ doesn't give a specific time, only a Boarding Group number, so there's no need to modify it. When first booked, you'll see an estimated return time, but that time is likely to change (become sooner) as earlier BGs go through. The nice thing is that you can't get in line before your BG is called, but you can return anytime after it's called - there's no deadline other than park closing time.
