Everything Old Is New Again! - A Dec 2010 Trip Report : THE FINAL ENTRY page 45

Evan finished rather quickly, but then I heard something I've never heard before - and God willing, I'll never hear again. Kayden was wearing his Captain Jack hat and dreadlocks, and as I'm helping Evan wash his hands I hear: "Oh no! I peed on my hair!"

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Too Funny.

Looks like you had a great time. :thumbsup2

There are two reasons I don't post pictures of my scores from this ride.
  1. Every time I try to take the picture, the flash washes out the LEDs that display the score.
  2. I'm not very good at it and my score usually sucks.
:

I think Evan beats you every time. :lmao:

I guess I scored high enough to help capture Zurg. And some low level insurgents. (Get it? "low level" insurgents? Because they're short! I made another funny!)
IMG_3520.JPG

I am going to take away your DIS privileges if you keep this up.

After leaving Buzz, we had only a few minutes to get some food and get over to the hub for the castle lighting. We steered into Cosmic Rays and ordered our food. We then began our search for a table that no one was eating at. I take that back - there were plenty of tables where no one was eating. There just happen to be people sitting at them. Yup, a Brazilian tour group had taken over about 20 tables. It looked like most had finished eating as were just sitting there, laughing, carrying on, and waiting for a few stragglers to finish.

I love Brazil

So we sat outside, in the cold. And to top it off, the boys did what boys do. As soon as we sat down, they had to go to the bathroom. So I got up and took Evan and Kayden to the bathroom. (Which in itself is no small feet considering how they pack the tables in there and leave very little room to walk). Evan finished rather quickly, but then I heard something I've never heard before - and God willing, I'll never hear again. Kayden was wearing his Captain Jack hat and dreadlocks, and as I'm helping Evan wash his hands I hear: "Oh no! I peed on my hair!"

This is why boys should never have long hair.

We ate as quickly as we could so we could get over to the hub and catch the last half of the "Move It Shake It Celebrate It parade" And believe me, when you give Madison a chance to shake something, she will!

The girl will dance to anything that has rhythm, despite the fact that she has no sense of rhythm.

The parade finished up and headed back down Main Street, leaving us a few minutes to kill before the castle lighting. I caught up with Tim (that's nice) and family for a few minutes before the show. If you've never seen the show, the premise is that Cinderella wants her castle to shimmer and shine like her glass slippers. The Fair Godmother appears and asks everyone to help her because it will take a lot of magic to cover the castle in ice. Ummm...have you checked a thermometer lately, Granny? All it will take is a little water.

Never the less, everyone chanted along and the castle started to come alive. Just flip a switch and turn on the lights? That not the Disney way! One turret at at time the lights began to slowly come on in waves until finally the entire thing is glowing. I've seen the lighting show before, but it's still one of my favorite things at Disney World!

Oh the flashbacks just came rushing back. Now I remember why I will never be welcome in Brazil.

I know that early on in this thread Barry (and a few others who shall remain unnamed- but if you really want to know just go to the first few pages) mentioned that there was a run in with a Brazilian tour group....there was.

Let me start off by saying that Barry made it out to be bigger than it really was. I will also now defend myself before I tell the story. As everyone reading is aware I am the mother of two of the three kids on this trip. If you have not noticed one of my two children is not of my same ethnic background. Turns out I really wanted to be a mom. I also work everyday in my real life to protect children from abuse and neglect-remember this is important. Now for the story.

While we are standing there waiting for the castle show to begin a very large tour group shows up behind us. No big deal, right? As the show begins the kids, Kaylene and I start to get pushed and stepped on. I politely tell them to stop. It continues and I become annoyed but not enough to do anything about it. Given the place and the amount of people I can understand some touching by other people (even though I have a very big personal space radius). Well my annoyance and acceptance stops when a little girl (no more than 7) was pulled off the bench about 3 people away by one of the tour group members. After I told the man (and I say man because he was in his late teens to early 20's) to get off the bench so that the girl could go back to her place I told the rest of them they needed to back up or I would call security and have them escorted out of the park. I will assume that I had fire coming out of my ears when I said this because they ALL did as told. (Must not have been a language barrier:confused3) We all finished watching the show.

The parade ended and we high tailed it back to Bambi and her parents to watch Wishes. I have to pause here for just a minute to thank Bambi again for staying back to hold our spots. I love you, dear!

You owe me more than a thank you. While you were off riding rides, watching shows and seeing parades I was busy fighting off 20 Brazillians. You can say my parents were there but they were no help. What Barry has not said during this trip is that we also had other friends at WDW that day. The three of them were instrumental in our fight to keep our spaces. Not only were we being pushed, stepped on and being called "rude Americans" we were also being spit on. The spitting was not necessary intentional but there was a lot of spit flying while they talked about how rude I was. Me? :confused3

I believe Tim walked by at one point, saw my frustration and was nice enough to comment on it, then walked away. Thanks.

As I relive this I think I deserve another trip to Disney.

When we finally did make it back, not only did I see Bambi, but 3 of my DISDad's Club Friends! Tim, Carl and Christian were all there with their families. We had a few minutes to chat and get decked out in glow sticks when the fireworks began. Again - an awesome show.

When the show ended, I turned around and to my surprise, another DIS Dad, Christopher, had sneaked up and joined our group!
IMG_3555.JPG

If I had known how many people I was saving spaces for I would have charged for the spots.

In the meantime, the kids were -despite the cold- having a blast.
The Princess and the Pirate, Tim's daughter, Juliana and Madison:

Juliana is a very beautiful little girl.

great update barry. nice pics!!! it looks like someone was missing from the meet??:lmao: i could of made it 6.:sad2: i forget were we were that night, we had an adr somewere.

Barry, awesome update(s) (yes, I've been a bad DISer and am behind on the updates...a lot going on at home and work but I reported happy news in my PTR so I'm back in the swing of things).

I love all the photos--especially the DIS Dads and Princesses Juliana and Madison.

The parade looks like a lot of fun. And sleeping children in strollers...how I remember those days (well, almost remember).
Yay for happy new! :woohoo:
Them sleeping in the stroller is fine until they have to be unloaded to get on a tram or into the car. :headache:

Every time we go, I plan to go back to the park for one of those 1-2am visits, but never manage to make it! :confused3
Early in the morning I was considering taking everyone back to the Treehouse after Wishes, then coming back for a few hours. By late afternoon I heard that bed calling my name, and when we actually got back to the room there was a choir of angels circling the bed, singing. True Story.

I think that should have been the title for your TR.
There's an even better pee story coming up later. And by "better", I mean soooo much worse. :thumbsup2

Looks like it was a fun day. I'm glad you got to meet up with all the dads. That was a great picture of Juliana and Madison together, and the one with the dads was ok too.
We know we all play second fiddle. We're fine with that.

Were there a lot of Brazilian tour groups there? I didn't think that was a big time for them to be there.
It's hard to tell where one stops and another begins. :confused3
I only recall running into them at MK and at AK later. This was the only time I can remember having problems with them, though...
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 A huge thumbs up to Bambi and her parents for holding spots. That's never a fun thing to do, but very nice of them to do it and allow the kids to go ride some rides.
::yes::

I know what you mean. That's one of my favorite attractions at the Magic Kingdom.
It's just a fun to watch the kids' reactions as well. My favorite part is when they all start reaching for the floating jewels. :thumbsup2

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: I knew she'd come around.
They all do, don't they?

What are we talking here? Do you break double digits?
Probably. I'm a Toy Story Midway Mania Assassin. But Buzz...eh, not so much. :confused3

We should keep a running list of "sentences we never thought we'd hear". As Dads, we could probably write a book.
Corollary: Sentences we never thought we'd say. I nominate : "Please stop licking the dog."

Cool! Remind me not to let her hold my soda.
But she does have a bright future as James Bond's personal martini maker.

I keep trying to ride this at night and haven't been able to do it yet. Is it as awesome as everybody says it is?
Nah, you're really not missing anything.

Just kidding. It's peanut buttery awesome. :thumbsup2

Way to take one for the team, Bambi! :thumbsup2
::yes::

Was it at least a cursed light pole?
I don't know if I'd call it cursed, but it look a bit ill-tempered.

WOW... I just happened to decide to pop in and see what your most recent update was before going back to begin getting caught up from where I left off... and what do my wondering eyes come upon?!? Me! :rotfl: How fun. Just like your comment, you turned around and surprise - there I was... surprise! Here I am again. :)
Are you sure you're not a ninja?

great update!
Thanks!

Looks like you had a great time. :thumbsup2
It's hard not to have a great time at Disney World (checking in experiences excluded)

I think Evan beats you every time. :lmao:
Maybe I should start subscribing to the "blind luck" school of gaming. :confused3

I am going to take away your DIS privileges if you keep this up.
Yes, dear.

I love Brazil
Ironic foreshadowing. Nice work!

This is why boys should never have long hair.
Yes, and this is reason #2

In the battle of nature vs. nurture, chalk this us a win for nurture.

You owe me more than a thank you. While you were off riding rides, watching shows and seeing parades I was busy fighting off 20 Brazillians.
Ok, how about a surprise trip to Disney World in April?

As I relive this I think I deserve another trip to Disney.
Oh, I see we're on the same page then. :thumbsup2

great update barry. nice pics!!! it looks like someone was missing from the meet??:lmao: i could of made it 6.:sad2: i forget were we were that night, we had an adr somewere.

Nah, it was like 9pm. You were probably in bed. :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

It's taken me a few days but now I am all caught up(had to read the first 2 trips before this one...:rotfl:) You have a beautiful family. Gotta say the yak attack is a little too familar...1st trip to disney in 2009 for christmas dd got sick the night before and had a few issues for the 1st 1/2 of the day....lets just say yuck.....Madison is such a cutie and I love the bead work.:thumbsup2

Wow, you went back and read those other two threads full of mindless drivel? AND you came back to keep reading more? :worship:
Yikes - a day and a half?!? I'm so glad Evan yakked once and was fine.

It's Tuesday morning, and it's Christmas in Hollywood!
Well, it's actually December 7th, but the weather sure felt like a good old, down home Wisconsin Christmas. We bundle up in the hats and jackets from yesterday and make our way over to Disney's Hollywood Studios. This seems to be the only park we consistently make rope drop at. At every other park, we usually only miss it by about 10 or 15 minutes, but Hollywood Studios is the exception.

Maybe it's because the park is so close to where we usually stay. Maybe it's because the parking lot is so close to the park and the bag check is smooth and easy to get through. Maybe it's because we really like the theming of the golden age of Hollywood, and how the morning light seems to make everything come alive. Or maybe it's because if you miss rope drop, you're looking at a 30 wait to get a FastPass for mid-afternoon (at the earliest) for Toy Story Mania.

Whatever the reason, we're generally always there, right near the front, watching the opening show with the director casting us all as extras in his next big picture.

We had met up with some other friends from back home on this morning - Jason, Rachel and her 12 year old son Austin. Jason and I grabbed everyone's tickets and joined the herd to go get TSM FastPasses. Everyone else was going to hang back, not get trampled, and meet us down by Tower of Terror. This was Jason's first visit to WDW as well, so I had to give him a few pointers on the TSM FastPass Dash™. (Basically, treat it like running with the bulls in Pamplona. Except the bulls will be nicer to you if you decided to stop and clog up the streets)

By the time we got our FastPasses and started heading for Sunset Blvd, the FP line was past One Man's Dream. Oh yeah, I remember now why we get to DHS for Rope Drop...

The best part about them opening Toy Story Mania? The end of Sunset Blvd down by Tower of Terror and Rock N Roller Coaster is virtually a ghost town first thing in the morning. By the time we got down there with the FastPasses, ToT was still only a 5 minute wait.

IMG_3572.JPG

IMG_3574.JPG

And it was only 5 minutes because we stopped for a few pictures. We walked right into the Library, milled around for a few minutes and the preshow started.

IMG_3578.JPG

Don't worry, this is his "I'll protect you Grandma" face.
IMG_3579.JPG

After ToT, we decided to ditch - sorry, leave - the kids with Grandma & Grandpa while we road Rock N Roller coaster. (See what I did there - I used "road" instead of "rode". Not only because they're homonyms, but because the ride is street themed. Honestly, I don't know where I come up with these gems! They just come to me!)

Maybe it was the awesome grammar jokes that convinced her to marry me?
IMG00041-20101207-0933.jpg

Since there were 3 of us, I let Bambi and Kaylene get the front seat while I sat behind them with someone from the single rider line. I was telling her how excited I was to ride in a super stretch limo and go see Aerosmith in concert. After a few minutes I came to the conclusion that she didn't speak English because all she did was nod along and give me crooked half smiles.

Whatever, the ride totally rocked!

We met up with the family and started heading back to Pixar Place to use our Fast Passes, but stopped for a few pictures along the way.

Kayden had a really cool idea to make a hidden Mickey with their heads. Evan didn't really know what he wanted, so he crouched down too. If you tilt your computer monitor a little to the left and squint, you can see the Mickey.

We continued up to the hat and found a few old friends...

Gettin' ready for some shootin'!
IMG_3644.JPG

I rode with Evan. He's getting better - usually he struggles to break 5 digits.
IMG00042-20101207-1055.jpg

And, as is tradition, once we exited TSM and compared scores, we crossed the street to the Buzz & Woody meet & greet. The line was just out the door, and we were told it would be at 45 minute wait. That's longer than we would usually wait, but Evan was all decked out in his Woody costume and Kayden wanted to meet these guys. Luckily, the queue gives you some things to do while you wait.

IMG_3646.JPG

Unfortunately, it was getting very close to lunch time and the kids were getting hungrier and crankier the longer we waited. That all vanished when it was finally out turn.

Woody loved Evan's outfit, so he got a BIG hug.

Which turned into a BIGGER hug...

Which in turn morphed into an even BIGGER-ER hug...

We got our autographs, said our goodbyes, and headed out the door in search of food.

Coming up next: Old Friends, New Friends, Fast Cars and Strawberry hugs

But before you go, it has been brought to my attention that we have a very special guest lurking on this tread...Everybody give a hearty welcome to the co-start of this Trip Report, Kaylene! :wave2:

:rotfl2::rotfl2: It looks like Woody is folded in half here. Too cute. I am glad Woody was able to "right" himself.

Newby here. :yay: for an update! Looks like a great start to your day. Your son's face on ToT is priceless. I can't believe that there is still such a mad rush for TSM fastpasses. You would think that it would have died down alittle since it opened. Great ride but sheesh, 30 minutes for a fastpass:eek:.

HI Kaylene!:thumbsup2

The pictures with Woody are, in a word, awesome!

Good job "running with the bull-headed" to the TSM fastpass machines.

Don't worry, this is his "I'll protect you Grandma" face.

Couldn't agree more! I like TSM, but ToT and RnR are still my favorites in that park.:thumbsup2

What's that noise??? Oh, it must be some of those crickets from Don's TR coming over here... oh well.;)

Maybe it was the awesome grammar jokes that convinced her to marry me?
I don't know, but I'd like to hear her side of it.:rotfl2:

I take it that since you're not going to share how the comparison went, that must mean you got your butt kicked.:lmao::rotfl2:

But before you go, it has been brought to my attention that we have a very special guest lurking on this tread...Everybody give a hearty welcome to the co-start of this Trip Report, Kaylene! :wave2:
:wave2: Hi Kaylene!

The sun was very low in the sky by now, and there was a bit of a nip in the air.
IMG_3512.JPG
Poor kids... they look like they are freezing!

I asked Kaylene if she still felt as guilty using her second FP as she did at the Jungle Cruise. I got my answer when she jokingly started complaining that the CM was letting too many Stand By riders on when there were FP people waiting!
LOL Good answer!!! :lmao:

  1. Every time I try to take the picture, the flash washes out the LEDs that display the score.
  2. I'm not very good at it and my score usually sucks.
Here's an idea...
  • Don't use the flash
  • Stop making excuses

I guess I scored high enough to help capture Zurg. And some low level insurgents. (Get it? "low level" insurgents? Because they're short! I made another funny!)
Oh boy. :sad2:

We then began our search for a table that no one was eating at. I take that back - there were plenty of tables where no one was eating. There just happen to be people sitting at them. Yup, a Brazilian tour group had taken over about 20 tables. It looked like most had finished eating as were just sitting there, laughing, carrying on, and waiting for a few stragglers to finish.
The worst!

I will say that I cut through Cosmic Rays 2 times when we were in MK and they had CMs directing people to open tables. There was no table holding or relaxing in there. There was a roped off line at the door with a CM standing at the front and 2 CMs walking through the tables and putting their hand up when one opened up.

Evan finished rather quickly, but then I heard something I've never heard before - and God willing, I'll never hear again. Kayden was wearing his Captain Jack hat and dreadlocks, and as I'm helping Evan wash his hands I hear: "Oh no! I peed on my hair!"

::yes:: AWESOME!
A very nice family saw the kids at the back of the pack trying to see, and squeezed over and invited them to sit up by the rope. Thank you random family!
What a nice thing to do!

The parade ended and we high tailed it back to Bambi and her parents to watch Wishes. I have to pause here for just a minute to thank Bambi again for staying back to hold our spots. I love you, dear!
LOL Now you are trying to suck up to Bambi after you left her out there to fend for herself? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

But alas, all good things have to end. We had been in the park since rope drop, going almost nonstop all day. The park was open until 1 am that night, but the kids (and the adults) were tired and cold. We started making our way out, but Evan did find enough energy to battle a light pole.
IMG_3564.JPG
So, who won? Evan or the light pole?

I am going to take away your DIS privileges if you keep this up.

Woody loved Evan's outfit, so he got a BIG hug.

Way to suck up to Woody! That's awesome! So did Buzz kick him in the shin?

But before you go, it has been brought to my attention that we have a very special guest lurking on this tread...Everybody give a hearty welcome to the co-start of this Trip Report, Kaylene! :wave2:

Hi Kaylene! :wave2:

Maybe it's because the park is so close to where we usually stay. Maybe it's because the parking lot is so close to the park and the bag check is smooth and easy to get through. Maybe it's because we really like the theming of the golden age of Hollywood, and how the morning light seems to make everything come alive. Or maybe it's because if you miss rope drop, you're looking at a 30 wait to get a FastPass for mid-afternoon (at the earliest) for Toy Story Mania.

The FP are nice and always a good reason to get up in the morning but we really get there for the chance to see Otto. You know Madison would be crushed if she can't see him.

Don't worry, this is his "I'll protect you Grandma" face.

To bad we did not get the picture of Jason holding on to Madison for dear life. :rotfl2:

After ToT, we decided to ditch - sorry, leave - the kids with Grandma & Grandpa while we road Rock N Roller coaster. (See what I did there - I used "road" instead of "rode". Not only because they're homonyms, but because the ride is street themed. Honestly, I don't know where I come up with these gems! They just come to me!)

Final warning dear. Any more and I pull the plug.

Maybe it was the awesome grammar jokes that convinced her to marry me?

I have no idea why I married you. I think I was just bored and had nothing better to do that day. :bored: I stayed because I am lazy and don't really want to go to court on my day off.

Which in turn morphed into an even BIGGER-ER hug...

Evan was so happy to get this big hug from Woody :cloud9:

:cheer2: Hi Ween. :wave2: How you doing?

Excellent update! :jumping1:

I like the puns, but maybe its the Y chromosome...
