Everyone Is Trying To Burst My Bubble For August Trip

I did a "girls only" trip late August one year with just me and my dd's a few years ago. They were 5 and 6 and it was one of the best trips ever. Honestly FL is always hot, always humid and it can thunder any given day.

We hit the parks early, took a pool break and went back to another park in the evening. Tell the truth my two October trips were much more uncomfortable humidity wise than my August trip. So with FL you just never know. August is less crowded due to the heat and the schools in session so you can get more done in less time = more pool time :)

The only thing we did was budget more for water $$ instead of trying to hydrate at meals and at water fountains. I found the water bottle straps at the carts and let my dd's each have one. They seemed to drink more water if it was accessable all the time and the strap with the water and a sports top did the trick. It was also cold and good tasting vs the fountains.

Have a great trip and don't worry. Some people are going to throw you a wet blanket no matter what.

August is my FAVORITE time to go (my kids too!) :thumbsup2 :cool1: We get up go the park, take a mid afternoon break at the pool/nap and go back at night. It amazes me how many people we see just starting out in the heat at 1 or 2......and when we return in the evening they are leaving looking so worn :confused3 Anywho......that being said, this year we are going in November because of an infant and I know how horrible it would be for him (6 months in August). Next year though, we will be there in August again :cheer2:

Be sure to get a mister fan and wear light clothing... I had a pair of pants last year that made me soooo miserable because they were thick... other than that you'll be fine.. if you get to hot... go somewhere w/ ac (shop, food location, inside show) and cool off for a minute.. I am from colorado and we have "no" humidity most of the time so it's a real change every time... but not as bad as some make it out to be... as long as your expecting it you'll be fine and after a few days you just get used to it

We went last August, and yes it was hot. We are going again this August!! We go to the parks first thing and head out around lunch time and hit the pool. We also do the waterparks. My kids are 10 & 5. They had a ball last summer, and all they do is ask to go back.

Bring hats, sun screen, and go to Dick's Sporting goods and buy some body glide. Comfy shoes, and changes of clothes for when you get sweaty. Drink lots of water. You guys will be hot, but you will have a ball!!

Like everyone says, you'll have a great time. Yes, it's hot in August, but you know that and you're prepared for it. You've received a lot of great tips here--staying hydrated, misty fans, dips in the pool, etc.--and you're making reasonable plans that account for the heat. I always like to bring plenty of clothes for multiple changes in a day so that I feel fresh. (I do laundry while there.) Even a change of t-shirt works.

As for all those nay-sayers, I had a similar experience this March but in the inverse. I had book a trip to London and people kept telling me how rainy and gray it would be during March. How I would be cold. (It was, and I was, and I was prepared for that.) You know what I did? I leveled a stare at them, with one of my special little half-smiles, and said, "And I'll be in London." And that's all it took to end the conversation.

Try it. "And we'll be in Disney." Enough said.

When someone tries to rain on your WDW parade, all you need it 2 words. They are ever so empowering....

:rotfl: I'm originally from the Albany, NY area and I used to say that all of the time! Now that I've moved to the 'genteel' south, I have to watch myself!

OP-- Let them have their fun raining on your Disney parade. YOU will be the one having the last laugh when you are at Disney and they are at home mowing the lawn. :goodvibes

The hottest day at WDW is still better than the worst day at home!! :thumbsup2

Best advice: buy water/fan bottles at Walmart for cheap (they have them right now). Nothing feels better than a breeze with mist! Take advantage of the extra magic late hours! Nap/swim at your hotel during the peak heat in the afternoon and then return in the evening for the shade and cooler temps.

You will have a great time!
