Every Wish That We Put Into Motion.... (comments welcome!)

Non-running item: I watched the "Music by John Williams" documentary on Disney+ Saturday night, and while it's long, it was pretty good. His music is amazing and it's fun to try and decide if he's so famous because he did basically all of Spielberg's movies, or if Spielberg's movies were so good because of the soundtracks that Williams did for him. Also, holy catalog of films. I knew there were a lot, but I didn't realize he did as many as he has.
It was such a good documentary. I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I have always adored John Williams’ music. Pre-kid, my husband and I saw all the three original movies with a live orchestra and I had goosebumps the whole time. I love that George Lucas still says the first movie would not have been anywhere near as successful without the music.

Weekly wrap up! MW is imminent at this point and I should feel very nervous about my physical preparedness, but I think that's currently being smothered by the sprint-to-the-holidays stress. DS1 is home from college which means I need to cook approximately 50% more food that I have been for meals. The weather has been all over the place....actual feet of snowfall and then 40s for a few days. Then cold and more snow. And next weekend is supposed to be in the mid-40s again (DH's phone was forecasting low-50s at one point!!) But winter break is here, and now I get to figure out how to clean my whole house and train and pack with all of the kids home. Wheeeeeeeeee!

Sunday: I took off because my body was pretty tired from the 5hrs of refereeing on Saturday.

Monday: I took this off as well because I was having some weird soreness in my shins. I haven't had shin-splints since high school, but these didn't feel like that and it made me nervous.

Tuesday: 3hrs 10min for refereeing. These games were all over the place and there was a *lot* of running.

Wednesday: Hello PMS-related exhaustion! This is going to be horrible timing for MW, because I think my "I cannot peel myself off the couch" day is going to be HM day.

Thursday: 3hrs of refereeing. Almost had 2 girls get in a fight. First time this year I had a coach chirping at me about a call for a prolonged period of time, and even though I've been working on strategies and responses for dealing with this, my brain just completely blanked when he didn't quit after my first attempt. And then one of my partners awarded the ball to the wrong team because he was trying to get the play to move on so the coach would leave me alone and *sigh* yeah. I'll get a lot of practice dealing with annoyed coaches the Friday before we leave because one in the game I'm scheduled is notorious for getting T'd up for badgering the refs.

Friday: 75min of refereeing. Freshman boys. It was a mess because their brains and their bodies just are not on the same page usually, and if they're actually *good* at basketball they've been moved up to JV. My legs were dead.

Aches and pains: I know it's not taper, so that cannot be given as a reason. I have had this spot in my right hip...high up, that is really stiff(?) feeling when I get up from sitting. If I push on it/support it then it's a lot better but it's pretty weird. I think it might be from rotating at the hip when I have to change direction, but all of this IT band talk has made my wonder. I have a raquetball ball in my bag that I usually smash against the wall into that spot before games, sometimes at halftime, sometimes between games. And I've also been trying to make it a point to do some dynamic warmup movements before games (squats into a hamstring stretch, side to side side-lunges/cossack squats?, and a lot of heel-to-toe raises for my shins and calves.

Now through leaving for MW:
I need to get on the treadmill 5 days a week. I need to do one longer run every week (min. 2 hours) and my other 4 runs need to be probably a minimum of 60 minutes. But. If my body would politely like to ask Ummmm, ***? I will dial it back a little. I know I can get through the distances if I show up healthy.

I had a successful 2 hours on the treadmill yesterday, but had a lot of right hip tightness in the afternoon/evening and then woke up to a grabby quad on my left leg this morning. I'm hoping it'll loosen up as the morning goes on, but worst case scenario I'll just walk for awhile today on the treadmill.

So we are going with option 2 on this one.

Looking back:

Sunday: 2 hours on the treadmill. Very slow. Did 4:1 intervals (because changing speed every 30sec is dumb on a tread.) My heartrate was predictably higher than I would like because I haven't done this kind of running in weeks. Still, it felt decent aside from continued annoyance with my right hip. It's something, as I'm pretty sure I've said previously, that has crept up on me in the past week and a half, and I think it's weakness in side-stepping or pushing off laterally to turn and run after kids while reffing. My hope is that it somewhat resolves itself over the course of the week. It did not resolve itself, but it hasn't gotten noticeably worse either.

Monday: Didn't get on the tread. as seen in my previous post, Monday brought a host of soreness and tightness that I'm not excited about this close to the races.

Tuesday: 1hr on the treadmill. Slower than Sunday. Walked the last 15min because of my hip. The quad tightness seems to have resolved, but not the hip thing. HR was a lot better, but that is influenced by the increased amount of walking (obviously.)

Wednesday: Merry Christmas! Popped on the treadmill for a 1hr walk in the evening. Rolled my hip and calves when I was done because now my calves are made at me?? DD had everyone up by 5:30am and exclaimed, "WOW! I was really good; look at all my presents!"

Thursday: rest day

Friday: Gotta get to those 5 days this week! 45min on the treadmill. Slower again. Switched my intervals from 4:1 to 2/0:30 to see if that "helped" things, and there's a very noticeable difference on the HR chart. 30/30 on race day is going to feel like a breeze!

Saturday: 45min on the treadmill, and then 15min at 2mph to see if a more "structured" cool down would help with this naggy hip stuff. It didn't. *sigh* Ran the whole thing with the 2/0:30 intervals and it felt a lot better than 4/1.

Sleep has been terrible all week. DD has been into our bed a ton more times than usual, and tosses and turns so much DH and I get woken up a lot. The puppy has been exceptionally whiney for a couple of weeks and starts up at about 5am for some reason. Couple with that the fact that I've really struggled to fall asleep for 2 weeks and ugh. I'm exhausted. Puppy unalived a rabbit in the backyard this morning at 3am, and then of course I had to go outside to grab him to get him back in the house, and then I was awake for 2 hours.

My original goal for today was to do another 2-2.5hr run, but I know that it's not going to do much for me physically at this point to push for that duration. Combined with how grumpy my hip has been, I just don't think it's a good idea for me to push that far either, and risk really aggravating it a week and a half before the races.

I've started packing, and have most of my costume pieces into gallon ziploc bags by day (there's a few things that will need laundered as they are being worn on 2 days) and I'm figuring out what holes I have as far as pre-race/early miles layers go. WOOOOOOOO!

Having just spent part of Christmas with a 16 month grandson who is teething/has a cold and never seems to sleep through the night....I feel your pain on lack of sleep. Hope things improve with that very soon. As for the pup...oy, not something you want to deal with in the middle of the night (or ever). But hey, at least it wasn't a skunk. Have had that happen and made the 4 am run to Meijer to buy de-skunking supplies.

Ooof, my sympathies. I am so grateful my DS stays in his room all night once he's asleep, but lately actually GETTING him there has been a pain in the butt. It's easier on the weekends when he doesn't nap and is tired, but they still nap at daycare (which is ANNOYING - he's FIVE and in pre-k and they should be learning NOT to nap and he DOESN'T need it) so he's not tired until like 9. Which is when I want to go to bed! He's asked a few times to sleep in our bed or to have me sleep in his bed, and I'm like NOPE, you move too much and also it takes you too long to fall asleep. I don't even like my husband touching me once I'm asleep. :P

We've co-slept with all of our kids, and all of our kids have been terrible sleepers (which is why we started co-sleeping in the first place....I could not handle all of the wakeups when they were tiny.) DD is also 5, and they do "rest" time at pre-school, but she doesn't sleep most of the time....but I love our teachers so much because they will pick up on her cues and if she starts talking about "I'm going to ____ tonight after school" they will try to encourage her to nap. She has a mattress on the floor at the foot of our bed, but I'm still having to get up and tuck her in when she comes down at 2-3am, and then she tries to crawl into our bed between 3 and 4. It's just.....ugh.

I'm mostly packed (toiletries and a few last minute things from the store tomorrow + charger cords) and mostly cleaned, had a very short wait at the DMV for the drivers license issue, and while I should be doing other things at the moment, I'm cricut'ing a hoodie for the weekend.

So I have a solid black hoodie, and I want to put
"Yes, I cry during the fireworks" on it, but I'm debating between just white text, or holographic over white.

Something like this, but then a #happilyeverafter in smaller disney font below it, aligned to the right

I already have a holographic 48.6/Dopey hoodie I made last year, and how much holographic is too much?

I second this. No such thing as too much holographic.
Also, please share a picture because I might have to make one myself, because I also cry. Much to my children's embarrassment.
I'll send you a pic of the finished product, and if there's a way for me to share the svg file, I can send that as well if you like it. (Assuming I can figure out how to save a layered svg file)

Thanks for recognizing that I just needed someone to tell me that all of the holo is ok. 😂
Finished product. Thought at the end that I should have just done the whole thing out of holo and as one piece and weeded the letters out of the offset so it was black showing through, but also I feel like this is more legible with the white offset. Hard to tell from the pic, but it’s 14in wide….sweatshirt is cut kind of like a spirit jersey, and I joked with my husband that I should have made it huge and in the back like a spirit jersey. Of course, I messed up and cut the wrong material on the wrong layer to start with, so I have a white, letters (what the holo is in the pic) only piece of anyone is going to be at MW and wants it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Up at 2:30 this morning to head to the airport. Plane was 20min late taking off because they had to spray it down to de-ice the wings. Our layover in Chicago was supposed to be 41min. And when we landed, my phone said it was a 21min walk to the new gate for our flight to MCO….it was boarding before we even got off plane #1 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

In the rental car garage the gate attendant couldn’t find where the expiration for my temporary license was on the paper was was about to kick us out of the car.

We got a room-ready text super early (if you go into MDE and click on “show room number” we have always gotten a room-ready text within 5min) but stopped at the lobby anyway to see if they could make it so we don’t have to move out when we go from our studio to our 2br lock-off, and they were able to make it happen! Of course, SIL/BIL are 95% sure cancelling on us this afternoon due to a bunch of health stuff with their extended family. 😢 We are giving them until Wednesday and then going to the front desk to see if we can do anything about all the points (we don’t need a 2br for 2 people 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️)

We got one of those super cute tiny Christmas trees from Arribas brothers, and margaritas at dockside in DS. Dinner a

Glad you made it in, even with the drama. For the first time in a long time I did NOT get to stay in the same room when we did the room switch in early December, so I'm happy that worked out.

Oh that STINKS all around! Weren't you planning to run the HM with SIL? I'm there if you need a race buddy!

Yeah if they do end up canceling, I’m going to go back up to the lobby to see if there’s anything we can do with our room reservation (down to a 1br?) even though I know it'll put points into holding.

Yes. I was. Looks like I’ll need to run you down! And while I’m still holding onto a shred of hope, it’s unlikely they’ll come down. (Her sister is having pregnancy complications, and her mom was supposed to house/kid/dog-sit and she got covid last week.) That means they’ll have to eat their flight costs (frontier), park ticket, and race registration. And I’ll have to redo 4 days of dining reservations. But maybe I’ll make it to HH now??

I'm sorry they (and you) are dealing with all that. I'll happily go "slow on purpose" for the half. ;)
