My husband and I were thinking of stopping at the Evergreen Sports Bar at Shades of Green after our round of golf at Magnolia. I am assuming since the disney site lists this aas a dining option for the golf course that anyone can eat here not just military?

Does anyone have any experience with this restaurant?

Thanks.

Hi! I don't have experience there yet, but we will be staying at SOG for the first time on Jan 4-6. I am going to take advantage of all the onsite dining (even though most of the restaurants at the resort don't get such great reviews) because you have to have a military ID or be a guest of someone there to dine at the restaurants. I believe the only exception is Evergreens, and I assume the only way you can get into it without ID is to play the golf course. I think it is typical bar fare, nachos, wings and such, but again, I don't know. I promise to report back after my trip, if you haven't already been!:goodvibes

You probably know this already, but you can checkout shadesofgreen.org for lots of info and phone numbers!

I believe you can eat there if you are playing the course. I have had the misfortune of eating there twice and it is fine for typical bar food. Service was REALLLLLY slow but the waitstaff was so nice we were willing to overlock. Huge portions so i'd suggest sharing. We did wings, nacho's things like that. Had the kids with us (which is why we had lunch there and dinner one night)

Thank you for the input. My husband is actually retired Army but doesn't carry a military id normally. This trip is for his 40th birthday (we leave this Sat.) and is a suprise so I could probably try to hunt down his id and put it in my wallet.

We are playing all of the wdw courses this trip including Oak Trail on his actual birthday (I didn't want to play 18 that day since I have reservations at the Yachtsman's Steakhouse for 7:25 and want to have time to relax in the afternoon).

I was thinking we would stop in for some beer and a simple lunch but I may rethink this. If anyone has a better idea I am open to suggestions.

Wow, you are my husband's idea of a DREAM WIFE! You are really going to do every WDW golf course in this trip? What an awesome 40th birthday for your hubby! I took ONE golf lesson, just last year, but I just never feel inspired to practice or do anything with it. My DH would love it if I golfed with him.

I don't think you'll need the ID for Evergreens, I think that is the only one ID is not needed for if you are coming from the course, but not sure if it is "nice enough" for a birthday lunch. Since you will be having a big meal later, you may be happy sharing some nachos. Or you could always walk over to the Poly and have a nice lunch at Kona. That is one of the underrated restaurants at WDW (although people are catching on now!) Or you could hop on the monorail and enjoy lunch at the GF or CR.

Whatever you decide, have fun! Happy Birthday to your DH!

You should definately try Evergreen's - we really like it!!!!
They have awesome burgers! You can sit inside or outside by the pool and have your meal or drinks.
We have always experienced good service ( maybe it was the time of year we were there).

They never ask for ID (military or hotel key) when you dine there. You can pay by CC, cash or room charge. You should have no problem at all. The food, on the other hand, is nothing special. Avoid the pizza, it's just bad. The burgers are passable and I love the onion rings, although, they are really greasy. And of course, it's relatively cheap.

If hubby is retired, you should look into getting park tix there as they have pretty good mil discounts. You can also get discounted green fees (not sure if you've already booked your game)

Have a great time!

no ID is required at Evergreens, unless you want to charge to your room..and then that's by default.

Plenty of conversations we had were with just Golfers who were there after their round.

My personal favorites were the key Lime pie and the teriyaki wings.

It's bar food, it's limited and it's plain, but passable. DH was however VERY disappointed there was no Reuben on the menu. Did like the Bar selection though, and the Bar tender...

We ate at Evergreens in 2005 and were "underwhelmed." It wasn't awful food, but just kind of mediocre. I like "bar food," but this wasn't that great.

I'd suggest hopping next door to the Polynesian instead. Get an ADR at Kona (one of my favorites), or stop by Tambu Lounge and have a drink and some lettuce wraps (the best meal of our trip in October!). Either way, you'll have a good meal.

It's not special, but not bad either. The stack of onion rings are yummy. The nachos were terrible, but the sanwiches were all decent. Good beer and cocktails at reasonable prices. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, but it's a convenient place to eat after golf.

We've never been ID'd at Evergreens, once you are on property, you should be good to eat there. My memory could be fuzzy, but the only time I recall them checking ID is at check-in and when we bought our park tickets.

It's typical bar food, not great, but not bad either.

Have a great trip!

Our group ate there after golf in October. Burgers and onion rings. We had good food and good service. One does not have to be military or retired military to eat there after golf. I would recommend it for the convenience, but I also think the food is pretty decent.

We've been to SOG twice and have been to Evergreen's several times. It's fine for a quick meal like a burger or snack and when our boys were with us in '98 they were teenagers, so it was fine for dinner the first evening after we got in from the Airport. The last trip we were on in 05 was just the two of us and we only ate there twice and whoever said the pizza is horrible, is right. It was bad. What we did do this last trip was go out there in the evenings and grab a drink before we went back to our room. It was fine for that. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. It's too easy to walk to the Poly and either eat there or at the Contemporary or Grand Floridian. We're going back to SOG next Nov and I don't plan any meal there, drinks probably, but no more than maybe one meal on arrival day or something.
