Everest vs MK roller coasters?

My 13 does not yet know we are going to WDW in January so I can't show him photos or videos of Everest. He does love the three MK "mountains." How do they compare? I would hate to make FP reservations and then have him refuse to ride.

Everest is much more intense. Very big drop and it goes backwards during one part.

I wouldn't call Everest that much more intense then Space Mountain. It's still a pretty tame coaster. It's definitely more intense then 7DMT.

Why would you skip making a FP+? Worst case scenario, you just let it expire. Other option is to modify it to something else, if he chooses not to ride it.

The forward part of EE isn't necessarily super intense...it's moderate. The big drop is similar to Splash, it has a steep banked turn not all that different from TT (but tighter radius). It's very common roller coaster stuff.

It's the backwards part that gets a lot of people. At one point, the ride stops with you facing uphill. It then releases you and you go backwards for a bit. It goes through a dark section while going backwards, and at the same time goes through a steeply banked turn...it sort of gives the sensation you're going to flip, but of course you never do.

I love it.

I can't stand the backwards part to the point that I won't ride it (I will NOT ever ride the Indy ride at DLRP ever again for that reason too haha).....unless you have other FP+ needs, I would go ahead and make it and you can change it later if he gets there and decides against it.....but then there is always the single rider line as already mentioned....

EE is my favorite coaster. More intense than Thunder Mountain or Space, but less than Rock N Roller Coaster. You go backwards at one point. There's a drop, but it is curved/banked so it doesn't feel as intense as Splash Mountain to me.

After reading all your replies we are sticking to using our FP on something else and doing Everest with the single rider line.

Have you watched a video of EE just to get a sense? When we surprised our kids, I watched videos of rides I wasn't sure of for them and it did help me out a bit. For what it's worth, my kids love the mountains and like Rockin Roller Coaster although it sometimes gives them both a headache. This last trip was their first time riding Everest and it's now their favorite coaster.

As others said, get the FP+. If he doesn't want to ride, change it to something else. If he likes the mountains at MK, he'll probably love it!

Remember to keep in mind, if you do the single rider line, he'll have to ride by himself. They won't seat you together.

Yes, as others have mentioned, single rider option is magnificent for this ride if you don't mind not being together. Lets you save a fast pass. I think this is rougher than Thunder Mountan, but not as bad as Space Mountain. Worst part is going backwards down a hill (not super steep) which then banks into a tight turn, which can get some pretty good G force sensations. Main forward hill (right after the backwards stretch is tame, and the rest is just super smooth twists and turns around scenery (ala Thunder Mountain).

EE makes my husband's face green - wasn't right for the morning.. He HATES the backwards part. I would take the MK coasters over EE any day.

^and I'm the opposite. I don't like EE (it was one-and-done), but the darkness and not knowing of what's ahead in Space Mountain makes me sweaty green (another one-and-done). Then again, I'm no teenager and I would've handled it better back then. :crazy2:

I agree with some pp if he is ok with space mt then everest would be ok. The backwards part is very short. EE might go faster but being in the dark for SM actually makes it feel like it is going faster. BTM and 7DMT really are not anything to compare it to.

How does he do on other roller coasters? If he generally likes coasters, he should be fine with that one.

At any rate, I think you should go ahead and get the FP. It will probably be easier to change it to something else that day, rather than trying to change it TO EE.

If anyone is unsure of the ride, single rider is NOT the place to go. You’ll be seated with a stranger and not with your party.

Good choice! Why waste a FP+ on a ride that really doesn't need one if you are ok with single rider! My DS9 rode EE 3 times in a row using single rider in August - he LOVED it!

Edited to add: I disagree with the PP above regarding the single rider line. You can see the drop on Everest from the path leading to it. If your son is unsure, simply move on to something else. If he feels ok with it, your entire party can get in line for single rider. Yes, you will be separated to ride, but then you all can meet up in the gift shop at the end. My DS9 had zero issue riding this on his own in August. I would simply walk him through the line and then head into the gift shop and meet him as he exited the ride. Someone will either like it or not - not sure why it matters whom they are sitting next to.

My son does NOT do upside down roller coasters or ToT. He's never done anything more intense than the three mountains at WDW and has, so far, refused to go on California Screamin' at Disney California Adventure. As for single rider lines, we do them all the time. For our family, it's one of the biggest advantages of visiting Disney with an older child. Spending less time in line for us is way more important than sitting next to each other.

I hated the backwards portion too till a friend who works in a hospital, respiratory section, said to scream while the train is going backwards. The backwards portion had made me nauseous. It worked for me. I have no idea why it works, but I love being able to ride it.
