Ever wished you had a snappy comback?

Ever get into a situation where something was said to you, and in the moment you're so taken aback, that you can't process a witty comeback? I had a situation when I was just entering the work world. I was the "office runner" (aka the girl who ran around dropping off huge stacks of computer printouts, dumping messages, etc.) I was fairly new. I knew one of the guys had just taken leave because his wife had given birth. So I was running around one day and entered 'Carls" office (he shared with the new dad"Ben") a woman was there with a baby. My first thought was 'wow it's Bens wife!" So I dropped off the stuff with Carl, approached the mom and said "congratulations! are you Bens wife?" She looked at me as if I had three heads and rudely said "who the H*&LL are you?" I backed off, I said I was new.... Carl just sat there. It was odd. Now, I think if I had time to ponder.... I would've looked back at the baby and said "unfortunate, must take after you".

I usually have good comebacks and need to pull back the throttle on my mouth when provoked, I'm better at it now that I am older.

If you answered, "Candidate for Wife number 2?" and walked away that would have totally messed with her head. Savage, maybe, but so was she

In hindsight, yes. My company got a new owner. Brought in new manager whose job it turns out was to clean house. Ultimately I was number 56 out of 58 people let go out of a department of 100. New manager berated me in group meetings with co-workers from other departments, but gave up on that because he would chew me out for doing something, and someone who didn't work under his supervision would have point out I did exactly as I was told the previous time I got chewed out. So the rest were one on one, I just rode it out. But in hindsight, given my days were number I should have just called his bluff. Including when he accused me of things that happened when I wasn't even on duty.

When I was younger, I guess I had more patience with ignorant people... Now not so much... LOL

So being from the south... my go to is always " Well Bless your heart" which in the south can mean just about anything... It's about tone, timing, and what words you put emphasis on..

Another southern phrase that can have alot of meaning..."Feel Free and Go with God"...

"Stay in your lane" is another favorite of mine...

Snappy comebacks are my thing. They're like salt...I put that stuff on EVERYTHING.
Always room for more snappy comebacks. I applaud you....

Being a complete and total smartass, I'm never at loss for an immediate comeback. The world needs more. I have no problem handing one over to a nanny, hall monitor, wanna be mod (for internet use- although some think reality is the same). Karens or Darrens as well.

Totally OT, but this cracked me up. My deceased sister's DH is named Darrin. His twin sister is named Karen. He's a nice guy, but his sister could have been the origin of the term Karen.

I can usually think of a perfect comeback, but I bite my tongue and remember what my daddy always said -- Ignore the ignorant.
