Ever wanted to stay at a resort because other DIS'ers love it??

Last year, after spending a whole lot of time on the DIS
I found myself telling my DH "I want to stay at the Poly!!!"

As you can tell from my signature, we have always stayed at values. Since that is all that I have experienced, to me the values are sooooo DISNEY! (And they are what is in our budget, if we want to buy souviners)

So I took a step back and thought, "Do I really want to stay there, or am I just wanting to stay there because I want to know why everyone talks about it so much?" And I came to the conclusion that I am quite happy at the values (or maybe a mod, as I am deciding about that for our 08 trip).

I guess I just wanted to be one of the cool kids!!! :rotfl:

Actually, I would love to be able to experience all of the Disney resorts over time!!

I'm very glad that Disney has resorts for all tastes and budgets!

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about! And with the SAME resort....POLY!

After reading SO MANY reviews on the POLY and so many people saying how they LOVE that resort...I've been wondering if we shouldn't give it a try one of these days. The thing is, DH and I are not into the whole tropical thing. And, he has no desire to stay there. Even when we went over to the POLY one afternoon on one of our past trips and walked around the resort, we still didn't have that urge to actually stay there. Then I get home and read the DIS and think I should stay there because surely I've missed something.

I gave in once and booked a stay at the GF. We had a bad visit in April 2000 because we stayed offsite so I talked DH into going again in Dec. 2000 and doing it right by staying at the "best" WDW resort...the GF. Sadly, neither of us much cared for the GF. We're glad we gave it a try, but as you can see, we've never been back and do not really ever plan to (unless our DDs--2 and 4--want to stay there one of these days).

My concern about staying at the POLY b/c so many people on here like it, is that it will end up being--for us--a disappointment like our GF trip. But, I'll probably end up giving it a try one of these days anyway. It's the only MK resort I haven't tried yet.

WL is our favorite. I had never intended to stay there until we went to go visit the resort one afternoon on a break from MK. We fell in love with it the moment the boat from MK made the turn and was heading for the resort. It's more our "feel."

The BW is our second favorite because of it's location and how easy it is to get to EPCOT (which is our favorite resort). We find that area more condusive to keeping our kids occupied while away from the parks as well.

So yes, I've wanted to try a resort just because the DIS said it'd be awesome, but I've been burned by staying somewhere because it was supposedly the "best" before. It really comes down to taste and what makes one happy. But experience at the resorts (even if it's just visiting them) helps make that decision much easier.

We've walked around at the Poly too! And we ate at Ohana while
at Disney a few weeks ago. While Ohana is now a must do, I don't
feel like I need to stay there!

I like the tropical theme and am thinking about CBR, but I can't decide between it and a value. Decisions, decisions ;)

I say just book a meal where you are curious and make that a small adventure in itself. Arrive early and walk around and see if it is something you may be interested in. We also booked Ohana and were so excited about it all. We walked all around, looked at the pools, beach etc..........and we had decided we had absolutely no interest in staying there. Problem solved. I am happy to visit and eat ;) and go back to somewhere else to sleep.

I feel the same way. I wanted to eat at Ohana, so we went there and ate.
When people are giving reasons for staying at deluxes, sit down restaurants seem to be a reason, but if I want to eat somewhere I just travel there. I don't mind taking away a little bit of park time for that reason. (I know that there are many other perks to the deluxe resorts, of course). One of these days I would like to stay at WL!

Everybodys comments sum up my feelings and thoughts exactly.
I would love to be able to stay at a Deluxe but it is just not in our budget.
We get to eat at all of the Deluxe resort Resaurants and love them,
doing this makes me feel like I stayed there, if only one morning or evening!
I think that all levels of resorts have so much to offer.
I won't go into debt to stay in one resort just because it is the "in thing" to do.
We truely enjoy our stay in the Mods and haven't ruled out staying at Values because of there uniqueness.
Disney resorts are great no matter which one you stay at!!!:thumbsup2

This happened to me with Pop Century:). SO many people on here have loved it, that I just had to give it a try. We already had a package booked for 6 nights at YC, but we hadn't booked airfare yet, so I talked DH into 1 night at Pop and going a day earlier.

The kids LOVED Pop. DD#1 (11 years old) asked if we could go back and stay longer next time. DH actually liked it, too. I liked everything except the room.....too small, hate double beds, and it smelled of old smoke (despite trying very hard to communicate to front desk CM that I wanted a "not previously smoking" room and would be willing to wait until later in the day to get one).

Still, there's a good chance the kids and I will stay there next year, without DH, for 3 or 4 nights. The bed issue will be OK because I won't have to share the double bed, and the small room won't be an issue because I can force the kids to put their crap away...can't do that with DH, who is a good person but a total slob.

For years I always wanted to stay at Poly. Not because of dis, but just that I loved the theming. Now after having stayed there & at so many others, it's probably one of my least favorites. I actually would rather POP than Poly.

So go figure. I went from LOVING a resort to not caring for it once having stayed there. Although, I do feel that all the monorail resorts are WAY overrated. Being on the monorail is only good for going to MK & that's it. You're so far from EVERYTHING and yeah you can take the monorail to epcot but it takes forever. JMO. :thumbsup2

WL, kinda. I still wanna do it, but I'm just worried because the transporation is all busses (minus the boat, but I've heard a lot of positives AND negatives about the boat too) to the parks and such.

I want to stay at the Poly soooo bad. We can afford it and want to go but I have to have a hot tub at my resort. I had back surgery and will never get through a week without a hot tub. Sucks for me. Maybe someday they will put one in and I will get to stay at my dream resort.

I feel this way about WL too.

Another resort that so many DISers rave about is CSR. I feel like I should give it a try, but I just can't get too excited about the southwest theming. I feel like I am trying to convince myself to like it, but am having trouble. :confused3

As far as the Poly goes....I have been dreaming about that resort since 1981, but I am still having trouble justifying the price tag for it. I think the suggestion of having a nice dinner there is a great one!

I am actually the opposite. We LOVE the Poly, always stay concierge, haven't had a bad experience yet, but somehow each trip I find myself reading the negative reviews of the Poly and Club Level in general and start the second guessing. I know that we love it there, the Poly is Disney for us, and yet I always worry "what if it has changed, what if we hate it this trip, do I want to spend all this money on someplace all these other people hated". DH always talks me down.:rotfl2:

:rotfl: I understand!! I'm thinking of staying at All Star Sports, and I've read a ton of negative reviews! But each person has their own thing that means "Disney" to them!! I love the values and you love the Poly-concierge and I say.....good for us!!!
