Ever use a shoe stretcher?

I just ordered one off of Amazon and just curious if you've ever used one and how well they work/or not.
I always have to order a wide width in shoe/sneakers but sometimes they are still a bit tight and I thought maybe using a shoe stretcher would do the trick. Do you only have to use them once on each shoe/sneaker or do you need to use it each time you use each shoe?

I used to use one years and years ago. They would help a little. I used them on each shoe a couple of times.

Also used one years ago on some good dress shoes. I think they mostly keep the shape of the shoe but doubt that are of much value to make a small shoe fit better. Seems they are mostly good for leather shoes, probably won't do much for sneaker type shoes.

My uncle used to own a shoe sale/repair shop. He would put shoes on the stretcher for people who couldn't quite find the right fit. As far as I know, it only works on leather shoes since the man-made materials are not pliable enough. Also, you can stretch the width, but not the length. Sometimes after awhile the shoes would get tight again, and people would bring them back in to get re-stretched.

I just use ziploc bags filled with water in the shoe and then stick the shoes in the freezer. As the water freezes and expands it stretches the shoe.

I use plastic sandwich bags & stuff them really tightly with crumpled newspaper. I push them as hard as I can into a dampened shoe. I also put a little into the back curve of the heel end. Then I take a disposable chopstick or plastic knife and try to push the stuffing up even more & jam it in between the stuffing in the heel. That has worked well in place of buying shoe stretchers. I've widen shoes that way. They did grow in the toe area a bit too.
