I knew the hotel we were staying in was converted from an old Catholic Hospital that was used during the Gold Rush. I thought it might be a little creepy, and when we pulled up, it was very creepy looking with a big glowing cross on the roof. I didn't really care- it looked cool. All the floors creaked, lighting was dim... but I had no idea until the next day. My uncle showed up at our family gathering with a book called "Haunted Inns". There on the front cover was a big pictire of our hotel:eek: None of us knew it was haunted- we were all shocked. It was actually very cool:woohoo: I did not have any encounters, but my mother, who really does not believe in such things, had two.

Anyone else ever stay in a "haunted" hotel. Did you know before you checked in?

We stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado this summer. It is supposed to be haunted but we didn't experience anything.

No never did stay at a haunted hotel. But yeh, that would be so cool! :thumbsup2 Knowing my luck I wouldn't have any encounters either though.

The Boulderado in Boulder, Colorado....
Its was a quaint place, just a little creepy at night...maybe it was the power of suggestion!?:)

Yes, in New Mexico. I did not know it was supposed to be 'haunted' at the time. Since I was utterly unaware of the hauntings, then I did not imagine ghosts, etc., with every small noise. I passed several peaceful nights.

I've stayed at the Strater Hotel in Durango, CO many times (I used to live near Durango) but never experienced anything myself. It's a beautiful hotel and if you're walking around Durango and need a pit stop, they have really pretty bathrooms. ;)

A few but I'm kind of into ghost type things :rolleyes1 We've never actually had any real experiences, just the tingling feelings and unease sometimes. I love watching the Travel Channel just for the haunted Hotel/location shows & the Disney programs :lmao:

They say that if you want to have an encounter, you won't. It usually happens to people less likely to believe it.

I felt comfortable once I got over the creepy look of the place. I actually felt more at peace once I found out it really was haunted.

no, but that would be cool.

It was:thumbsup2

I was imagining all sorts of stuff until I found out it was "haunted", then I felt more at ease. I have never believed in ghosts, but my experience here is making me ask questions. Like I said, nothing happened to me, but my mom did have encounters and the things that happened to her were in the book, only she did not even know about the book before the things happen. The book was not in any way affiliated with or sold by the hotel. We found it in a store in town. It featured three different area hotels.

No, but it's on my list of things to do! :thumbsup2

Do it! Do it!:woohoo: :scared1:

I was just talking to my friend about ghosts, apparently he used to live in a house where they heard footsteps and the kitchen cupboard doors opening and closing. If they closed the kitchen door, it was always opened when they went downstairs :scared:

I love the hauntings shows too!

You know- I did actually experience something but I waved it off at the time. My DBF, my lil bro's DGF and I ran back to the hotel to get my camera between functions. My uncle came too because he needed something in his room. My uncle took way too long so we were waiting on the couch on the second floor for him to come down from the third floor. DBF got tired of waiting and went out for a smoke. While me and DBF'sGF sat there a freezing cold breeze blew in and lingered. We both felt it and the plants in the hall rustled. There were no windows in the hall, and the bedroom windows did not stay open- they had to be propped (finally- a use for the Gideons Bible!) and housekeeping made sure they were shut daily. Even if one was left open, it is July, in the afternoon. No freezing cold breezes. This hotel did not have air conditioning. Where did that breeze come from? It lasted almost a full minute.

I'll come out of the closet and tell you guys that I had a VERY strange, downright creepy experience at a hotel.... CORONADO SPRINGS at WDW! True!

Joe and I were asleep when something woke me up. I looked around the room and saw a woman standing by the door. She was wearing shorts and a tank top with blond hair. She looked like every single midwestern thin blond soccer mom you can picture. I kid you not! She was staring right at me, her arms at her sides, when she lifted one hand up and put it to her heart, then slowly dropped the arm back down. She didn't do anything else, just stood there without a sound. I saw her clear as day!

I shook Joe awake, I was so freaked. I kept saying, "Who is that?! Do you see her?" I described what I was looking at and he kept looking all over. He couldn't see her. She didn't vanish, didn't move. Just kept staring. Joe got creeped but said, "you're dreaming, there's no one there"

I kept shoving him and said, "If I were dreaming, how come I can still see her? I'm talking to you right now! Do I LOOK like I'm asleep?" So he leaned over and turned on the light and poof! She was gone.

He jumped up and checked the door lock and looked all over for her. He was downright scared someone would jump out with a booga booga or something. She was nowhere to be found.

After a few minutes, I went back to sleep. Joe told me the next day that he spent the rest of the night sitting up in bed :scared: :scared1: while I slept like a baby.

Funny thing is I was creeped, but I was never afraid. She just looked so strange standing there like that, staring at me.

I kid you not. True story. At Disney World no less.

I told a good friend (Hi Wendy!) about it the next day. She was a cast member at the time and said that she'd ask around. Seems that a LOT of folks go to Disney when they're close to dying because it has so many happy memories for them. Wendy didn't find out anything specific about a soccer mom blond lady but did say that perhaps she was one of those folks that came to Disney to spend her last days. Who knows?

:lmao: What a great idea! If I come back as a ghost, I'm going to WDW, too.

I did laugh that Joe stayed up all night while you slept all night.

EEEEKKKKKK! Yes!

Many years ago, my sorority held a formal at the grand Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. We all stayed the night at the hotel. I didn't know it had a haunted background.

Around midnight, several people mentioned that they wanted to visit one of the haunted rooms and apparently, my room (that I shared with three other girls) was one of them. :scared1:

Some of the guys plulled up the area rug in our room and discovered a trap door. They were able to open it and discovered a staircase leading to another door. That door was locked, thank goodness. Of course, the guys started making up stories as to what that door led to. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much that night. :scared:

Here's a link to the hotel. I guess some people claim it's one of the most haunted in America (look at the photo links):

At the MGM Grand in Vegas... my hubby and I went a few years back. We were sleeping and I heard someone else in the room, I was thinking that housekeeping came in and looked over to see an older women gathering stuff from the nightstand calling to someone that was in the bathroom and saying "come on we need to leave, we need to get out of here." I could also hear someone in the bathroom at that time. Freaked me out and I turned to wake my hubby which took some time and by the time he woke up enough there wasn't anything or one there.

I found out later, after telling some others about my "ghost thing" that the MGM burned down many years ago and it was rebuilt in a different spot!?!?

Also, my mother in laws house has ghost. It opens her closet doors, things will be moved, shoes go missing! Found out after living there for a few months and alway having that creepy feeling... there was a family of 3 that died down in the basement... not sure if that is real or not, but the house deffently has ghost friends in there... Lots happends there!

Only stayed in one, once.

However my "kitchen":rolleyes1 is the local inn that is now converted into a restaurant. I am there at least 3 times a week and there are many many stories about the place. One of our regular servers refuses to lock up at night by herself so sometimes we wait until she is all done to leave. .

I was visiting DD several days before college was to be finished for the summer. DH couldn't get the time off work, so I was staying at a small bed & breakfast not far from the campus. Lovely elderly woman was the owner of what had been an old parsonage. The lady's grandaughter was staying with her also for several days and occupying a room just down the hall from mine. After a restful nights sleep, I rose early to shower and get ready for breakfast. Upon finishing my shower and exiting the bathroom (which was adjacent to my bedroom), I noticed the distinct odor of cigarette smoke. The property had listed itself as non-smoking. At breakfast, I nonchalantly mentioned the cigarette smell and made some non offensive comment about young folks smoking (thinking it had been the grandaughter). Nice. little, elderly lady informs me that it wasn't grandaughter, but the "spirit" that occupies the house! "We don't know exactly who he is, but he doesn't hurt anybody. He likes to smoke and sometimes moves things around and hides stuff on the guests". Well, freak me out big time. Although, if he caught a glimpse of me in the shower, I probably freaked him out even more!!!:rotfl2:

Yep. Stayed at "The Inn at 835" springfield, illinois, for a wedding reception.
I went back a year later and took this pic. (seen here recently in a ghost thread)

Built in the early 1900s, the Inn at 835 in Springfield, Illinois first housed luxury apartments. The dream of Bell Miller, a turn of the century businesswoman, it was designed during the Arts and Crafts movement by architect, George Helmle.

While still in her 20’s, Bell Miller began a floral business in the early 1890’s, catering to Springfield’s high society. Before long, she expanded her small business into a number of greenhouses, encompassing a city block.

In December, 1909 her dream home was completed, including airy verandahs, massive fireplaces and exquisite oak detailing in a neighborhood once termed “Aristocracy Hill.” In no time, the dignified building attracted an array of aristocratic tenants who graced the luxury apartments over the years..

In 1994, the building was completely renovated and the apartments were converted into seven luxurious guest rooms, each offering private baths and amenities such as double Jacuzzis and airy verandas. In 1995, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
But according to the legend, Bell Miller became so fond of her dream home, that she refuses to leave. From guests and staff come the stories of a warm friendly voice that seemingly comes out of nowhere. On other occasions, a ghostly figure has been seen drifting through doorways. One report included a book taken from a tightly packed shelf and placed in the middle of the room multiple times. On another occasion, when the wallpaper began to peel away from the wall, it was found to be perfectly repaired the next morning. Apparently, Miss Miller continues to care for her luxurious home.

She also seems to have a penchant for candy as the sound of the lid from a crystal candy dish is often heard being removed and replaced when no one is around. Most often reported are the strange events occurring in the elevator. Guests often report that regardless of the button they push, they wind up on a different floor. Though the elevator and been serviced and inspected on multiple occasion with reports that it is in perfect working order, the events continue to occur.

In any event, Miss Miller is seemingly a benign and friendly spirit at the Inn, which today provides every modern convenience without detracting from the sense of gracious luxury which Bell Miller created almost a century ago.

We stayed at the Myrtles Plantation twice and the only experiences I had there was a light on a dimmer switch dimming by itself and a bang against a window when I was outside the room right by the window. I looked in the window but saw no one and the dimmer switch just needed to be turned back up.

A lot of people staying there at the time had even odder experiences or so they claimed. One lady was talking to a staff member about how she'd lost a blouse somehow in her room. She said that she'd looked everywhere and she sounded sincere. A lady walked up shortly after that and said that she'd just checked in and there was a blouse hanging on her door for some reason. I overheard a man later complaining that "the maid" kept sneaking into his room and rearranging everything on his dresser. I wonder...

We've also stayed at the Menger in San Antonio several times but haven't experienced anything there.
