I just read something on priceline that you can now rent your car through them. Has anyone successfully done this? What was your rate and where was your rental place?
Thanks,
Jo

I have done it three times. don't remember the rate, but, it was VERY good. The place was Alamo 1x and Avis 2x's. Both at MCO.

We do a lot of quickie weekend trips to FL and always use Priceline for those. I research all the rates with codes and then bid something below that. There has only been one time that I couldn't get a car, and that was over Christmas (I didn't think we'd get one for next weekend, but we finally got Budget through Priceline for the first time ever...it was more pricey than I like to pay to Bill Shatner, but less than anything else I could find.
The agencies we get, in order of frequency, are: Alamo, Avis and Hertz. We got National only once, and as I mentioned, we got Budget once but haven't done that trip yet.
We've never had any problems, and often they don't do such a hard sell on the insurance because we're pre-paid. We book the cheapest car class and have gotten several free upgrades. Only glitch was one night when Avis's computer would not accept our information. It kept saying the rate was unavailable, even though we were pre-paid. They didn't give us any problem about honoring it; the only problem was for the poor agent to figure out how to force the computer to take it! We ended up getting free insurance...had something to do with how they had to enter it.

We just got back from a week in Myrtle Beach. The day before we left, our trusty Blazer failed to start. My son, a mechanic, found a faulty relay to the fuel pump, but said that we wouldn't know if that was the only problem until we drove the car without failure for a week or so. Not an option with a 700 mile drive ahead of us. So I went to Priceline, put in a bid of $20/day for a fullsized car, and they came right back with a $26 counter offer. I'd done some research of the local rental scene and found nothing less than $34/day, so I accepted. When picking up the car at the local airport, I upgraded to a station wagon for $4/day more. We needed the extra room. We got a Taurus SE, a great wagon, unlimitrd mileage and saved our vacation. Hertz was the company. BTW, the Blazer is doing fine, but we'll probably try Priceline again next year unless we but a new car by then.
