I have been thinking about our first trip with the girls in May a lot lately! Our dream trip is to stay at the Poly lagoon view. This is our plan so far.

My question is, Has anyone ever paid out the money and at the end of the trip or during their trip, had regrets on paying for a Deluxe hotel??

If so why?

Never......we always look at the resort being part of the magic!! The poly is great, although we are Beach Club converts! Have a great trip! We are leaving in...21 days!! I cant wait!!

I've never regretted paying for a deluxe, but I have regretted paying less for a value--I kept wishing we'd payed more and stayed deluxe instead. JMHO--it's a very personal thing, but we learned that a certain level of accommodations was very important to us, esp. because we spend time in the room.

--miffy--

Never.....nor when we stay at Value or Moderate I believe staying on Property is one of the biggest parts of going to WDW, and the Deluxes just turn-it-up several more notches......It can be expencive...But your at the right place(DIS) to find the best prices, and deals...

Never, never, never.....I stayed off property to go for a day and my DH and I decided that we would never stay off property again or anything less than deluxe...we stayed in POR and could hear the people next doors ENTIRE bathroom conversation!!! YEp!
WL is my MUST now, although, I would not turn down the GF if it was an insanly low price! ;)

Sort of. We split our last stay between All-Star Movies and the WL. I love WL. It is a great hotel. The key is how much time will you be spending at the resort. Or, do you need a larger room? I don't regret staying at the WL, but unless we get really great rates then we would rather stay longer than stay at a Deluxe. I didn't find the themeing or service to be any less than the best at the "value" or "deluxe" resorts. They were just different experiences.

I would however just once like to stay at the Contemporary (main building) and the Poly. Just to have the convenience of the monorail. I also like the Yacht and Beach Club. The only other value resort I'm interested in is Pop Century. My moderate is CBI.

We have stayed at the All-star resorts and at Wilderness Lodge and have spent time in many other resorts. The fact is being on property is an important part of the experience for the kids. The deluxe resort, Wilderness Lodge, is making the experience magical for dh and I. The deluxe resorts give even more in atmosphere and pure Disney magic. Enjoy! At the least you will have experience to pull from for next trip!:sunny:

NO!

You're staying at the Poly, in a lagoon view room?

My goodness, you'll never want to leave.....

IMHO, Nope. I never regret paying for Deluxe Resort. We stayed at WL last year and this Dec. we're heading back there. :hyper:

(Even though it took us a LONG time to save up for it! )

But WL was WORTH EVERY RED CENT! :teeth: :teeth:

We now know for us: After the WL there is no going back....

We tried to do CSR moderate this trip and regretted every minute of it and wished we had just stayed at WL as usual. HOwever, we thought we were going to save some money. Maybe we did save a little money, but we lost a whole bunch of MAGIC!!!

I have to agree with the poster that said there is no going back after staying at the WL. I have tried to convince myself that the money we would save staying at a moderate would be worth giving up our favorite resort, but I just can't.

We will cut back in other areas before we give up our Disney home. :D

Nope never. I'll admit I'm a resort snob and I'm proud. ;)

Thanks for all the replys!!!

:D

My husband and I stayed at the DxL back in 1995 for our honeymoon trip, and I wish we would have stayed at the Poly or GF back then.

We have only stayed on site once. This past Feb we stayed at the WL and absolutely LOVED IT!!! I do not ever regret the price we paid. We are already booked again at the WL for next Feb and I am just hoping that room only codes come out for our time frame so we can keep our ressies. I booked our upcoming trip three weeks after we returned home from our last trip. Nothing else even looks appealing to us. Well....there is just one...the Beach Club. I am hoping that for our 15th anniversary (next year) we can stay there instead. We are however staying our very first night at Pop Century!! We usually stay off site our first night and then go to our resort on Sunday, but with all the good info that Tyler has given us, I had to stay an extra night on site in a new hotel!!

Cya at the Lodge!!

:wave2:

My first 4 or so trips were always spent at Deluxe Resorts. Never regretted staying at them or paying the price until I stayed at a moderate. I went to CSR and found I liked it as well as, or better, than the Poly, (at a LOT less expense).

One of the points folks like better about Deluxes are the interior corridors. Personally, I found there's a lot more noise when you have interior corridors. People bouncing off the walls, kids AND adults yelling and screaming at all hours.

Deluxes may have better high-end restaurants, but moderates, in my opinion, have better and more affordable offerings for quick eats, (breakfast, lunch).

When you stay at the Poly, you WON'T regret it. Your tune may change, however, if at some time in the future you stay at a moderate and find out how wonderful they are too. You might end up questioning yourself as to whether staying at a deluxe was worth twice the price.

No regrets here!:)
Deluxes are the way to go, IMHO. I don't think that we could ever go back to a moderate! It's worth the extra $ for us.::yes:: :hyper:

Yes!

I have stayed at Caribbean Beach - liked it.
Our next trip we stayed at the Beach Club - everything was fine, no big issues.
Our last trip we stayed at All Star Music - loved it!

Before our last trip I said I would never stay at an All Star. No way, not me. I had heard too many horror stories here on the DIS. Well, we recently moved to a new home, and I have plenty of other things I would rather spend money on - so we made the sacrifice (at least I thought at the time) of going "budget". We ended up getting our room for $65/night (pool view).

We were VERY pleasantly surprised by our experience. When we stayed at the Beach Club (in Dec 2000 - before the renovation), our room was a very, very, very long walk to the parking lot - and my Mom was with us and we had a handicap parking permit. I never did see where everyone besides handicap and valet park. Our room didn't feel that "big" or "luxurious" to us. It was fine, but I never once said "wow". After Disney we went down to Del Ray on the coast and stayed at a Marriott that I thought was much nicer. The best part of the Beach Club was the location - EPCOT is our favorite park, and it was nice to be able to walk there quickly.

When we stayed at the ASMu, our room was right next to the main building where the food court and bus pickup was. It was sooo nice at the end of the day to step off the bus and be in the room in a matter of a minutes. When ever we used our car, we never had to park far away. We always were close to our room.

Our room was plenty big for three of us (me, DH and DS who is 5).

For us, I can no longer justify $300/night versus $65.

NOPE! We started out 9 years ago staying at Value Resorts. Then we moved up to moderate. Now, we've been staying deluxe (Beach Club is our favorite!) and we'll never go back. Don't regret the extra $$$ at all, never have. The convenience and ease of getting around is well worth the money - and having nice full-service restaurants. Of course, Coronado has a great full-service resturant, Maya Grille. Still, we're deluxe recruits all the way.

However, I must say that we've never, ever, and never would pay rack rate for a deluxe. We use our AP discount and we've used a CM discount (from a CM friend) as well. If I had to pay upwards of $300 a night for the room, the answer to your question would be quite different.

We typically spend about $194 a night including tax using some type of discount (use to be room codes but I think those are a thing of the past). We usually stay at YC or BC.
