We are surprising our kids with disney this year. I see we can customize our magic bands with names.

Has anyone ever used fun names on bands and do the names show up on the bands? We are a family of 4 and thought it would be fun for the kids to be the 4 incredibles or pooh, tiger, piglet and eyore etc.

I did this for my mom when she and I went in November. She had me put "nana" on hers since that's what the kids call her. But, I just did our names for our next trip because I've heard that the CMs may refer to the kids that way. So, if you're doing a meet and greet the characters may call them by name. Not sure though.

We had 2 sets on our last trip. One set we did our names, the other we used Tangled characters.

Taking my GS on our 6th trip since 2010... The inside of one of his MBs for our trip (split stay) has been customized to read OneLuckyKid ;) lol! ****edited to correct**** LUCKYKID ;)
Mine says RingLeadr O_o

When you scan your band your name pops up for them. They like to call you by name

We're going in 2 weeks, and our family of four each put a nickname on their magic band. I chose RDQueen for mine!

Who likes to call them by name?

I know someone mentioned the characters, but i am not sure how they will know their name on the bands unless they have to scan it somewhere to meet the characters

As you scan your band to go through for a fast pass, enter the park and (I think) make a purchase, the name you assigned to your band pops up on their screen.

We just returned from an 11 day trip. I was called by name 3-4 times. Most CM barely made eye contact with the exception of the international CM in Epcot who were all delightful and the entry gate folks--and of course servers.

the scan will only show the name of the person assigned to that particular MB, as in your MDE profile.
and since the letters are on the inside of the band, it's almost impossible to read while on.

using different names won't affect anything - i say go for it :)

I put the nickname my nickname (Jackie goes down to JacKz)

A friend of mine and I are going to Epcot and half-drink aound the world. we are Drunk 1 and Drunk 2. Watch THAT trip be the one where I am not in the mood for one drop of alcohol. LOL!!

While yes, the cms do scan your band and your name does pop up the name that pops up is the name used to create the MDE account. The name you choose for the band only shows up on the band itself.

For example, my DH name is Jon. That is the name for the MDE account. On his MB in October her had me put Fuzzball. While the band itself said Fuzzball on it when the cms scanned it they saw the name Jon.

Thanks. This sure helps a lot. I think I will have some fun with changing the names up a bit on our bands. :thumbsup2

My kids were a little freaked out that the CM called them by their names when they scanned their MBs at the FP+ machines. I did put on my DHs "Daddy O" which thankfully the CMs didn't call him that.

Yup, I've put my username on it every time!

They've never called me that though - Always by my actual registered name.

DH just had his initials on his but I used a nickname (froggy) on mine. The CM who checked us into the hotel had a little giggle about it and commented on it. Next time, I'll get him to use something more imaginative than his initials.

This is correct. You can customize the underside of the band to say something cute or silly but no one can see it except you. And when scanned, it pulls your real name from your MDE account and NOT what you typed in during band customization.

First band I just put my first name. Then I started putting a date or other identifying code on there that is specific to the trip - Poly'14 and my initials.

We've never put our own names on them. We've put Sorcerer, Swamp Fox, Jiminy, Minnie, and Zorro, to name a few! We have enjoyed naming the bands after beloved characters.

That's a good idea - I'll probably do that once I've cycled through all the colors! ;) (Except pink... coz I'm a guy!)
