I've always wanted to have one of those Lava cakes (chocolate cake where the middle is all oozy, gooey melting chocolate)MMMM

I'm thinking I would like to TRY to make some for tomorrow's dessert(Valentine's Day) Are they hard to make and are they as good as they look?

Yes! I've made it a number of times!
Paula Deens recipe is easy, easy, easy and very yummy!
There are others that I like a bit more, but Paula's is a great one to start on.
Just don't overbake or you won't have any lava!

I second Paula's recipe. Made it a few times and it's very easy and very good.

They are delicious! Hands down my favorite dessert, with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream-yum!

Totally worth eating. Most restaurants I have eaten it at will serve it with vanilla icecream since the chocolate is quite decadent and dare I say...chocolatey (of course!).

I have never made it.

They did this on Worst Chefs of America and all the contestants succeeded. The one tip they had is to make sure it is cooked enough for transfer but not overcooked that you have no lava.

I figure if they could get these people to succeed--I'm guessing that it is true that it is not as difficult as it seems.

Very easy to make. We typically make them, put a scoop of Haagen Daz in the center divit when its nice and warm and then drizzle with a little chocolate sauce.

Betty Crocker sells mixes of single serve desserts, and this is one of the flavors. It's very good! If only one or two people are going to have it and they're watching their calories, it's a decent option. To keep it low-cal, use a squirt of Redi-Whip instead of ice cream.

They are easy to make and sooo delicious!!!

Another recipe that you may like is this one http://allears.net/din/recipes/rec_cs.htm

It's not that hard. The end product is heavenly. And you must make the vanilla bean sauce. It is wonderful!!!!

They are delish, but only when warm, so don't leave any leftovers! :) The day after they get a littlke weird/hard.

Thanks for the recipes!!! Not sure which one I'm going to try yet but I'll definately let you know after we have them tomorrow. Must get the vanilla bean ice cream though. MMMM

I like that link. Not only does she give very detailed instructions with pictures, she is witty.

I'm addicted to her web site, love her. Have made many of her recipes, but also enjoy her non cooking stories. She is hilarious!

Had one today.. surprisingly good from DOMINOS pizza~~:scared1:

We're snowed in and ordered out pizza. Mike wanted a dessert so I ordered the lava cake. Had no idea it would be so GOOOOOD!!!

Now I'm looking for a recipe! Yum yum!

I made one today. I used the Pampered Chef Rice cooker and made it in the microwave!!! I mixed a chocolate cake according to the directions on the box directly in the Rice cooker. I added 1/2 a container of chocolate frosting in spoonfuls on top and covered it with the rice cooker cover. Microwave for 9 minutes and let cool for about 3-4 minutes. Then I tipped it out on a plate and instant lava cake!!

Something that is similar to a lava cake but made in one 8x8 square pan (for the family) rather than individual ramekins since I didn't have any of those is this fabulous Hershey's recipe I found back in 1988 (the coupons expiring in '88 are still attached, lol).

Hot Fudge Pudding Cake

1 1/4 c sugar, divided
1 c flour
7 tbsp cocoa, divided
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c milk
1/3 c melted butter
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 c packed light brown sugar
1 1/4 c hot water

Preheat oven to 350*. In medium mixing bowl combine 3/4 c sugar, flour, 3 tbsp cocoa, baking powder & salt. Blend in milk, melted butter & vanilla; beat until smooth. Pour batter into square 8x8 pan. In small bowl combine remaining 1/2 c sugar, brown sugar, & remaining 4 tbsp cocoa; sprinkle mixture evenly over batter. Pour hot water over top; DO NOT STIR. Bake 40 minutes or until center is almost set. Let stand 15 minutes; spoon into dessert dishes, spooning sauce from bottom of pan over cake. Garnish with whipped topping or ice cream as desired.

This recipe is supposed to be 8-10 servings but our family of 5 always manages to finish it off!!
