Ever lose a tonail?

lol. Not to be totally disgusting, but I banged my big toe the other day. After the pain wore off, I noticed that half the tonail is purple/black. It almost looks like someone drew a line down my toenail! Weird!

Now I'm wondering ... is it gonna fall off??? And if so, will just half of it fall off?

Ever had this happen?

If I recall correctly, I think something similar happened to my son-in-law and eventually it did fall off.. Can't remember if it was painful until the new one grew in or not.. Of course he tries to act "tough" all the time, so even if it did hurt he probably wouldn't have told us..

I hope yours heals without incident.. My toe hurts just thinking about it.. Ouch!

I banged my big toe a few weeks ago and mine is also BLACK. So far nothing has happened. It just seems to be growing out.
I just broke the tip of my thumb on Friday (let me tell you how much that hurt) and that nail is black and definitely looks like it will fall off. I'm kinda scared

Yes I did.. the nail first went black. I did NOT touch it at all. At least 2 weeks later if fell off.. there was new nail under the black (blood) it didn't hurt or feel strange at all!

I lost both mine last year at the same time...long story but OUCH!!!!! Lets just say i did a lot of walking and got whats called runners black toe nail.

You may loose it. First of all if you can get the black out by using a needle and pushing it under the toe nail. That will help relieve the pressure and stop infection from puss that may start to form.

It should not hurt just go into the side if the nail and push the needle through making a spot for the fluid to drain. There is another way to do it also but start with that. The next is to heat a needle red hot and pock it through the front of the nail making a small hole to help drain. That does not hurt because remember the nail has no nerves or anything.

If it falls off it will take a good week or more and you may need to help it along. After it falls off you are fine and will have no pain and it will take 6 months to a year to grow back. You can even paint the nail bed with nail polish and it is safe. Both my nails are back in but thought for sure that I did such damage to them that they would not grow back....and that does happen.

I lost mine... it hung out for a while and finally, I just ripped it off.

It grew back in about 3 months... and is THICK!

I lost a fingernail.

My fingernail was stuck in a bag wrack at work & I didn't realize it & I went to walk away in a hurry & I totally ripped the nail off. OUCH! I had to wear three Band-Aids on it for 3 months until it grew back.

Mine toe nail was riped right of it did hurt for a couple of days. My new toe nail grew in and it was a little thicker then my old one.

I've lost 2 big toenails. They didn't hurt when they came off and they grew back in.

It hurt the most when I injured it.

I lost a thumbnail. I closed my thumb in the car door when I was 12. It turned black. My mom took me to the doctor, and she poked a bunch of holes in the nail with a hot needle, and then I had to soak it daily in iodine. Not fun.

I'm too chicken I guess to rip it off. It's half off now, I think. I'm afraid of what's underneath it! If I rip it off now, will it grow back by spring, so I can get a pedicure?

there is new nail under it.. just rip it off.. I was a chicken too! Finally it got caught on a piece of carpet and came off It didn't hurt or feel strange at all. Poking holes in it? Oh no way dude (ette)

I dropped a foot stool on my toe the first time it happened. The nail fell off on it's own. It was weird to see it without the nail but it wasn't gross. I was afraid it was going to be. It grew back pretty quick.

I hurt my toe really bad, it got infected. Never thought too much about and then one day I was drying my foot and my whole nail just came off! Freaked me out! The new nail was growing in already but because it was growing under the old nail it was growing in sorta funky. It fell off around Feb/March and I was able to get a pedicure in the summer. I might have waited longer than I needed to because I was waiting for the funky looking part to grow out.


Now my baby toenail comes off a lot. I have broken that toe so many times that now whenever I hit it the thing turns black and blue and then falls off. I hit it this morning on the shopping cart, hurts like crazy and should be falling off by the end of the week.

i've lost my big toe nail and three fingernails. (both index and right ring.)

the most painful part is when you first hurt it, or if you accidentally rip it off once it disconnects (that happened to two of my fingers)

i suggest keeping a bandaid on it, to keep you from ripping it.

when it falls off, the new one should be growing under it.

Lost my 2 big toenails. Its taking almost a year to grow back. I'm on my feet for hours sometimes at work so thats been hard. In the beginning I had to wrap my toes with tape and cotton until the skin got harder. Still hurts when I wear flip flops and bump into something. OUCH!
