Ever hear of a vasectomy not working?

I don't know if her husband went in to be checked after the procedure or not. Knowing him, I would guess yes. They're such careful people. I have to admit I'm a little bit amused by the whole thing!

She saw the baby in an ultrasound, and saw the heartbeat and everything. She's 12 weeks- already past her first trimester- holy moly!!

I have to say I am amazed by how many other people this has happened to. I thought I'd get a lot of responses saying, nope, never heard of this before!
Gulp!

Dr. Oz has also said that some men have an "extra" vas deferens tube that is not cut during the procedure (because the doctor is only looking for a certain number of them to cut). In this case, it is not considered a failed procedure and if the man goes back for the "after check" there will be sperm in the sample.

Yes I know 2 people that this happened to.
The first the hubby's body most likely repaired because the procedure was done many years prior.........and most likely the least effective method was used back then.
the most recent one is a mom i know from gymnastics, she has a 1 yr old, conceived after hubbys V

Oh I can top that. A family friend of ours many many years ago (about 20 or so now) went thru it. She had a tubal, he a vasectomy. She became pg a year or so after they had it done. Needless to say, that baby did not cost them a dime. ;)

I know there have been many advances since then, but boy that family's story has been etched in my brain since.

Check online for the failure rate of the procedure. Surprising. :teeth: And they really need to keep up with the periodic tests afterward!

These stories scare me to death because my husband is one of those who did NOT go back to get it checked. It was "too embarrassing."

Seriously, the day I see two lines on a stick is the day I strangle him.

I'm pretty sure he had the snip tie and burn method. He told me he saw a little puff of smoke. The whole thing was quite dramatic. Poor baby.
This made me laugh out loud! :rotfl2:

My dad and DH had worst-case-scenarios happen with their vasectomies, so I try not to let them speak to anyone I know who is going in for the procedure. :lmao:

This seems to be a trend, LOL. I have read about it on other forums, and the post V babies seem to be increasing. Even those where both adults went in for surgery.

What I am shocked about is the fact that men are being told come back for a recheck at 6 weeks and that's it, or twice at the most. My OB told DH that he need to be checked every 2 months for a year, and 3 consecutive tests had to be negative.

It's worked for us but not for a dear friend of mine. Her hubby had it done & I assume testing turned out OK. Later she ended up with a tubal pregnancy & hubby's friends were all over it with congratulations to him. Gee, guess they didn't realize how not good a tubal pregnancy is. Can kill the mother & of course the pregnancy can't continue.

Our daughter had a ruptured tubal & ended up needing surgery for it. Several months later she had a partial hysterectomy. Hasn't regretted it since!

In the case of the story the original poster said- the vasectemy was done about 8 years ago. That was a lot of years of it being effective for it to simply be a case of not going for a clear sperm count- sounds like the body just repaired itself and presented the couple with a baby. Glad to hear the husband took it so well I know a few who wouldn't have taken it well at all.

Friends of friends had it happen about 19 yrs ago. It was either when I was PG with DS or soon after he was born that the lady found out she was PG.
When the Dr went back in to redo the V, he said other than a tiny bit of scarring, there was no evidence that the man had ever had a V. It was the same Dr that did the original V.

Mike Barnicle wrote a column years ago about the birth of his "surprise" baby after a vasectomy and that was essentially his opinion. This child was either #8 or 9. He had written a column about the birth of each of his children so wrote about this one, too. He went to a different doctor to have the second procedure.

When my first husband had it done the Dr. told us a story of a man whose vasectomy had healed itself after 14 years. I always had that at the back of my mind, wish he had never told us! Fortunately we never had any problems. My second husbands is working just fine too.

Yep. Dh worked with a woman who became pregnant. Her Dh thought she was cheating, because he had a vasectomy.

She was very, very happy the day she came in and announced that his analysis showed he was still fertile!

A woman I know had a single and twin pregnancy after her husband's vasectomy failed. She was hysterical when she found out about the twins and her son was only 10 months old. She had her tubes tied when she delivered her twins. They have 5 children now and thought they werestopping at 2. Another woman I know got pregnant after her husband's vasectomy and they started using backup birthcontrol after that.

I have a heart condition and after a terrible first pregnancy (resulting in my DD being born at 32 weeks and spending time in the NICU) I had my tubes tied. Safe as houses we thought. Umm no.

I ended up pregnant with my son. It was a crazy time, months in the hospital on bed rest, being afraid about dying and leaving my DD motherless, people mad at me for deciding not to terminate (that was my Dr. advice, a was repeated by two other Docs early on) learning the baby had IUGR and all that but I have a beautiful happy son now.

Oh and I had them actually go back in and burn my tubes. No more freak stats for me!;)

My nephew. Of course he never went back to check. They named their little boy Chance since what was the 'chance' of it happening:goodvibes

Wellllllll...........I'm 2 weeks late and my DH had his V 7 years ago. IF I am, I hope it's a girl after having 3 boys.

Yeah....I can sympathize with you! DH didn't follow up either. The doctors office was 20 miles one direction...and he worked 20 miles the other direction. GET THIS....He wanted ME to take his....errrr...SAMPLE to the lab! :scared: Ummm....NO WAY...NO HOW! If we end up with a 4th, it's HIS FAULT! And I can't think of anyone who would side with him in that arguement! LOL!

(BTW....can you imagine getting pulled over and searched on the way to the lab?!? OMG! :faint:)

They told us you are not protected for at least 30 um, how shall I say this without TMI or getting censored - ejaculations - before going back for the sperm count test to see if he's in the clear.

I'm sure your DH would be glad to suggest alternate ways of getting the 30 shots prior to the sperm count. ;) :lmao:
