Ever have the concierge get you reservations

One has to wonder how many reservations are held back at the sit down dining venues. We are thinking of changing one and it is not available in advance. However, my partner said to just have our concierge call and see about a waiting list or working their magic.

Anyone ever try this?

They are not held back. However, the concierge may have more time to continue checking for an opening than you have. (Assuming you are staying club level and not talking about the lobby concierge)

The desk concierge and club level folks have the same access as you do.
This is correct. However, a host/hostess at a restaurant is not going to call you when a cancellation occurs and a table opens up. However, the host/hostess might call a concierge to let them know about the opening. So it is possible that the concierge might have a better chance of getting a last minute ADR than a typical guest.

The concierge at the GF and the YC have been able to get ADR for me that I could not get from home. I have been told by more than one CM that certain concierge are in possession of an override code, that in special circumstance, they can use to squeeze guests into restaurants. However this doesn't always happen, and can't happen for small venues like v&A.

I find it hard to believe that ADR are not held back. Not everyone has a computer. I have read some people just show up on sold out nights and even though there may be a wait, they get a table.

Yes, but most people have access to a telephone to call, which is what people did before most people had access to the internet.

I equate WDW ADRs to call ahead seating. Basically, book an ADR, show up at the restaurant 10-15 minutes before and get put on the list with the others with ADRs in a certain time frame and ahead of any trying to walk up. There are always going to be last minute cancellations, I have seen many day of that most tried for months to get, or no shows. This opens up space for someone to walk up and be willing to wait. There is also the possibility that some days the turn over of tables goes quicker than expected.

I know that I have been checking in and someone in front of me was asking about a wait, they were told 1 hour. They chose to wait and about 45 minutes later, I saw them being escorted to a table. I have even done walk up for a table at restaurants and been told 30-40 minutes, but only waited 10-20 minutes.

They are not held back. Whether someone can get a walkup isn't dependent on the ADR system.

Sort of takes the fun out of a vacation if you have to do all this planning to eat!!!

I agree. But it isn't much different than trying to get into a popular restaurant in a big city. I know if I want to eat at "Girl and a Goat" in Chicago (ANY DAY OF THE WEEK) I need to make a reservation months out. Sometimes you luck out and can get a last minute stool at the bar or can find an open table right when they open or close to closing. But that is rare. If you don't want to plan, don't. Just expect to be turned away at some places or wait a bit for a table at others. Kind of like that popular restaurant in a big city. Actually it can be that way where I live in Peoria, IL too. I've waited over an hour for a table on a Friday night at some of Peoria's more popular places.

This spring, we had friends meet us at the Beach Club when they arrived. Their spring break was the week after ours and we didn't realize our WDW trips overlapped on the weekend.

Our traditional last night meal is Cape May Cafe. I went to the BC concierge around 3pm and asked if there was anyway we could add our friends (going from 4 to 8) for CMC dinner that night, which was a Saturday. Our ADR was for 6:30.

They said they could, but we may be at two different tables. Ended up getting seated just past 6:30 at at a table for 8. Needless to say, those CMs at the desk got some nice thank you emails sent to Guest Relations.

Thanks. I think I will forgo the rest of the reservations and just turn it over to the Concierge at our resort.

The Poly CL concierge has never failed us. They had problems getting one for us this year made an ADR at an alternate restaurant saying they'd keep looking for the original. And sure enough they did and three weeks later we got an email from them with the ADR reservation number at the time we wanted at the original restaurant. They've always given tremendous service for us.

You might really be taking a chance if you are going at a busy time. I would definitely make teservations at any of the more popular restaurants and not leave it to the last minute

1) Yup.
2) We can add you (via Dining Override Code) to
. . . any eatery
. . . any time
. . . any date
3) This is regardless if it is SOLD OUT.
4) The only exceptions are eateries that are truly capacity limited
. . . HDDR
. . . Luau
. . . V&A
5) Yes, others with confirmed ADR's end up waiting behind you, but, that is the system.

The desk concierge and club level folks have the same access as you do. Nothing is held back.
. . . IF they do not have an Override Code
. . . however, even those without the code might be able to "squeeze" you into an eatery at THEIR OWN resort.
. . . example; put you into WCC at WL (only 80% of tables are put into the Dining "Ala Carte" System)
. . . example: put you into 1900 Park Fare at GF

I use my concierge every year. This past February it was to add two to our reservations at Via Napoli and to change our reservation the next night. It seems we always have a change of heart when we get there and decide to eat somewhere other than where our reservations would have us. Our concierge has always, I mean always been able to help us get what we wanted.

We've had very good luck with the CL CM's at both BC & YC getting us ADR's that we could not get on our own.

Your best bet is if it is a restaurant at the resort you are staying at, and staying CL. I have had AKL CL staff help me with boma time changes when nothing else was showing online.
