My BIL is going to Iraq at the end of June so we are trying to find a time to go visit him before he goes. Elliot is having surgery at the beginning of June for his inguinal hernia. My mother is at it again with her drama. ARRRRGH!!! It has been one of those days where all the possible stressers in my life come to bug me on one special day.
My mom told me about 3 years ago she was dying of ALS (Lou Gehrigs...my grandfather died of it about 3 years ago). She is convinced she has it. Well, it just so happens all of her symptoms are also in a disease called Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. It is something alcoholics get when they are basically being brain damaged by lack of nutrition. Even the alcoholic with the most balanced diet could still get it. My mother, however, eats nearly nothing. She decided to tell my brother tonight (she told me that Thanksgiving but didn't want to ruin the holidays for my brother) as he was leaving on vacation with his girlfriend. Nice timing huh?
He called me upset saying she was pretty convincing. She said she has trouble climbing stairs. Heavy drinking has nothing to do with it though accoring to her.
I'm fairly certain she has Wernicke-Korsakoff. There isn't a symptom on the list she doesn't have. I guess it doesn't really matter. Both will eventually kill you and I doubt my mom will quit drinking. Even if the doctor told her it wasn't ALS, I doubt she would admit to having an alcohol related illness.
ARRRRGH!!!
So, I am going to bed early. I'm going to watch Six Feet Under reruns with DH and take a hot bath. I made banana bread so I'm going to take a nice big piece of hot banana bread and put some vanilla ice cream on it too! Yes, I'm a stress eater!
