I don't feel satisfied with a sweet dinner, myself. If I don't feel like cooking, I have some cheese and crackers- or cheese and toast, or a scrambled egg over toast, with a piece of fruit and maybe a glass of tomato juice. For a youngster I'd offer the same, or a PBJ sandwich and some canned soup, or some canned ravioli. An occasional meal of cereal and milk, especially with fruit, would not have the child malnourished. It's nice in general to have the recommended vegetables and proteins.
We have had strawberry shortcake for dinner when local strawberries are in- since my mother used to fix this. Actual shortcake, strawberries, milk poured over. But I have to have something non-sweet too and will fix soup or something so I feel satisfied.
