Ever had bad dinner companions at your table?

We cruised the Med last summer on DCL and after the 1st night requested a table change. We are a family of 4 ( 2 daughters 14 and 11 at the time). Our tablemates were nice, however, we had nothing in common with the 4 ladies. IT was a stuggle to come up with things to say. Awkward silences filled the dinner hour.
Plus I could tell my daughters felt very uncomfortable.

We worked with the Maitre'd and he found us a spot in an earlier seating plus they assigned us a table by ourselves.

Don't know what we would have done if we stuck it out with the original table for the entire cruise through the Med. I was so appreciative that Disney was able to accomodate us.

is there a phone number to request our own family's table. Last year we were a table of 5 by ourselves. I just assumed if your family was 5 or over, it was on your own:confused3

On our 4 day Wonder cruise last April, Lisa and I were seated at a table for 8. Of the 8 of us 2 of the couples did not speak English. Lisa and I, and Rosemary and Frank got along famously. One of the non English speaking couples was Japanese and on their Honeymoon. I was an exchange student in Japan so we were able to communicate and giggle in a mix of long forgotten Japanese and newly learned English. They were very sweet. The other couple did not speak at all, and barely even looked at us. My thinking was that they might have been Korean or Vietnamese....but I wasn't sure. Our waiter, Harlon, spoke Japanese and his native language..he was from the Phillipines ( I know there is a name for their language that is not Filipino). Whatever he spoke to them, they must have understood because they were able to point to a menu printed in some Asian language and order meals.

The couple that did not speak at all barely made eye contact with anyone, including the waiter. It made all of us a bit uncomfortable, even the Japanese couple. They did try to talk to them and were met with silence. All in all it was very, very strange. I happened to see the man at the pool one day and he looked at me, then looked away.

We've had fantastic tablemates on previous cruises. However, we did that Med cruise last July and the first night half of the table was empty. We tried to tell my dad it was because he smelled funny. :goodvibes

The next night a family showed up and the mom and dad were too busy trying to impress us with how rich and smart they were to notice that their three kids were really obnoxious. They insisted on special food every night - for example, they wanted creme brulee and when our rockstar server brought one for each kid, they each took a bite and then left the rest. One kid didn't even touch his!!

While at lunch on an excursion we sat next to a really cool family and they were telling us how they had to move to a late dinner from main seating...when we counted how many there were of them, we asked them what table they were supposed to be at. Come find out, they are the ones who didn't show up the first night! So we just teased them for leaving us with the crazy family. :)
